Why? Why do this and scare these CHILDREN?! Shame on whoever did this.

This morning, the Olathe Police Department was dispatched to Prince of Peace Catholic School regarding a threat to the school. The Olathe Police Department, along with Fire Department personnel, assisted with evacuating the school and clearing it to ensure there was no active threat. The threat was unfounded, and it was determined that other cities in the metro were receiving similar hoax calls. The Olathe Police Department takes all threats against schools in our community seriously as the safety and security of children there is our priority. We are currently investigating the origin of the call.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Olathe Police Department at (913) 971-6363 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-8477.

Congratulations to Susan Sherman! You should have NEVER been the second choice.

Following a comprehensive nationwide search, at the Dec. 16 Olathe City Council meeting, the Governing Body appointed Susan Sherman as the next Olathe City Manager.

Sherman will be the ninth City Manager, and first female City Manager, in Olathe’s 167-year history. She has served with distinction in the City Manager’s Office since 1989. As current Deputy City Manager, Sherman is responsible for the day-to-day operations of four focus areas in Olathe’s 2040 Strategic Plan; Economy, Exceptional Services, Infrastructure, and Quality of Life. During her tenure, she has played a key role in guiding the Olathe’s growth from approximately 68,000 residents to nearly 150,000.

“I am deeply honored to continue serving the Olathe community in this new capacity. Olathe is an extraordinary community with dedicated public servants, innovative partners, and engaged residents,” Sherman said. “I know our hardworking and passionate team’s commitment to excellence is the backbone of our success. Together, we will continue building a stronger and more vibrant community into the future.”

Sherman will begin her new role Jan. 31, 2026, following the retirement of current City Manager Michael Wilkes.

The circus continues at Olathe HQ. The City Council threw procedure out the window when they voted to extend the current City Manager's contract, and now that's biting them in the butt as Wilkes has declined.

Hopefully this opens the floor to promote up Susan Sherman, current Deputy City Manager with over three decades in Olathe and all the knowledge Bacon felt Wilkes would take away with him. A well-qualified candidate.

Olathe city manager Michael Wilkes has declined the city council’s recent offer to stay in his role through early-2027. The council approved that offer by a 4-3 vote Friday.

Why expect a functioning city and council when we can't even keep our codes updated? 🙃

When a resident contacts the city for information, we are often told that we can find info on the internet. If something this significant is overlooked (and for this long!), how do we put trust in anything else?

More news coming out of the city this week, the expected cost for the new animal shelter has risen to $25 million from the initial $16 million. The plans for the new site (placing already traumatized animals near train tracks and the Santa Fe/I-35 construction project), will now offer these animals a better standard of living than the roughly 8,000 citizens living below the poverty level.

The Olathe City Council will vote Tuesday on a $6 million funding increase for a new animal shelter, totaling $25 million.

In a move right in line with Mayor Bacon's reputation, the Council moves forward with a decision to do anything but hire a qualified woman. Essex, with a history of lemming votes, supports the decision. Vogt and Gilmore, both of whom are at the end of their terms (due to being voted out and retiring, respectively) give a final middle finger to forward progress. Schoonover, Felter, and Vakas dissented.

In a surprise move Friday evening, the Olathe City Council elected to cancel its search for a new city manager — instead, current manager Michael Wilkes will stay on for
