VCFD firefighters recently responded to a rattlesnake bite off Long Canyon trail in Wood Ranch. This marks the 7th reported rattlesnake bite in Ventura County since mid-march.

With this increase in snake activity, we wanted to share some important rattlesnake safety information:
Rattlesnakes are active this time of year and often found on or near trails, in brush, and around rocks and logs.

Take a few simple steps to stay safe:

9 Stay on marked trails and watch where you step
9 Wear boots and long pants
* Look before stepping over rocks or logs
If bitten: stay calm, limit movement, and call 911
immediately.

Do NOT use a tourniquet or try to remove venom.

We encourage all of our residents and visitors to stay safe while enjoying the beautiful trails, parks and outdoor areas here in Ventura County.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a recent increase in catalytic converter thefts occurring throughout the county and in Ojai. In the past few months, there have been over fifty reported thefts of catalytic converters in most of the cities and various unincorporated areas within the county. These crimes have primarily taken place during late-night and early morning hours, often targeting vehicles parked on the street and in driveways.

📹 Detectives have reviewed surveillance footage related to several of these incidents. Based on this information:

• Suspects are typically working in pairs or small groups
• They often use two vehicles
• The thefts are committed in less than two minutes
• There is credible information suggesting the suspects, while acting as “lookouts,” may be armed

❗ Due to the potential risk, citizens are urged not to approach or confront the suspects. Immediately report suspicious activity by calling 911 or your local non-emergency number, depending on the urgency. Remain aware of your surroundings, especially during nighttime hours.

Residents can take the following steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

💡 Park vehicles in well-lit areas or inside a garage if possible
📸 Install motion-activated lighting and security cameras
🔒 Consider installing a catalytic converter anti-theft device or etching your vehicle identification number (VIN) onto the converter
🚨 Activate vehicle alarms

Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force’s recorded line at (805) 383-8703 or by calling the Crime Stoppers Tip Line (800) 222-TIPS (8477).

🚨 Speed Limit Change – Cuyama Road 🚨

The speed limit on Cuyama Road in the Arbolada has been lowered from 25 MPH to 20 MPH.

We know many drivers use this road as a shortcut to beat traffic, but studies show speeding often saves less than a minute. It’s not worth the risk.

Let’s look out for our community and be good neighbors for one another.

This community-focused event is open to the public and requires no registration.

As e-bikes continue to grow in popularity across the Ojai Valley, this event is designed to provide families, riders, and community members with clear, practical information on how to ride safely and within the law. Attendees will learn the key differences between street-legal e-bikes and illegal off-highway electric motorcycles, as well as current laws and regulations, including those that specifically apply to juveniles.

The presentation will also focus on real-world safety considerations, helping parents and riders understand how to reduce risks, avoid common violations, and make informed decisions when purchasing or operating an e-bike.

This event provides an opportunity for community members to ask questions, gain clarity on evolving regulations, and partner with local law enforcement to promote safe and responsible riding throughout the community.
