Este jueves 10 de septiembre, demostramos que Oakland lucha por los inmigrantes.

En todo el país y aquí en nuestra comunidad, la lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes continúa—especialmente mientras Trump y sus matones de ICE siguen dañando a nuestra comunidad.

A nivel local:
Iván Sergio Chaparro, esposo y padre de tres hijos de Berkeley, fue secuestrado por ICE en el Aeropuerto de Oakland el 28 de agosto.

A nivel nacional:
El Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) para El Salvador vence el 9 de septiembre. Exigimos que Trump renueve este programa del que dependen miles de salvadoreños. Terminar el TPS para los salvadoreños sería un intento descarado de Trump para continuar con su agenda ra***ta de deportaciones masivas.

Y eso no es todo. El también planea revocar las visas de hasta 200,000 personas que buscan asilo. Sería la revocación masiva de visas más grande en la historia de Estados Unidos.

This Thursday, September 10, we will show that Oakland fights for immigrants.

Across the country and here in our community, the fight for immigrant rights continues—especially as Trump and his ICE thugs keep harming our community.

Locally:
Iván Sergio Chaparro, a husband and father of three from Berkeley, was kidnapped by ICE at Oakland Airport on August 28.

Nationally:
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador expires on September 9. We demand that Trump renew this program that thousands of Salvadorans depend on. Ending TPS for Salvadorans would be a blatant attempt by Trump to continue his racist mass deportation agenda.

And that's not all. He also plans to revoke visas for up to 200,000 people seeking asylum. It would be the largest mass visa revocation in U.S. history.

Guillermo Medina Reyes, civil rights organizer and tattoo artist from San Jose, spoke with CSO Oakland about his experience inside California City Detention Center.

This facility is the largest detention center in California and the third-largest of its kind in the country.

It was illegally opened in September 2025 without local approval. Recently, CoreCivic sold it to DHS for $732.6 million—along with Otay Mesa for $739.2 million, totaling $1.5 billion of our tax dollars to CoreCivic pockets—as part of Trump's mass deportation agenda. Despite the sale, CoreCivic still manages the facility and continues to profit.

Guillermo is one of thousands of our community members in immigration detention who are speaking out about the unjust conditions and fighting for their rights and freedom.

¡Día de la Liberación Chicana 2026!
¡Que viva el pueblo!

Fue un honor profundo para CSO Oakland haber sido invitados a hablar en la Fiesta del Barrio en celebración de la Moratoria Xicana de 2026, organizada por EastSide Arts Alliance + Cultural Center.

CSO es una organización de base, comprometida con la lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes y la liberación chicana.

Agradecemos a EastSide Arts Alliance & Cultural Center por la oportunidad de alzar la voz para exigir justicia para Guillermo, mostrar nuestra solidaridad con Enil, y defender a nuestros campeones en la lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes como Nadia Topete, quien enfrenta un gran jurado por ejercer su derecho a protestar contra ICE.

Highlights from Chicano Liberation Day 2026!

Shout out to EastSide Arts Alliance + Cultural Center for keeping the fight for Chicano self-determination alive and strong.

The 2026 Xicana Moratorium Block Party was an amazing success and such a powerful event—especially in honor and defense of our street vendor community.

The Chicano Moratorium came out of the anti-war movement of the 60s and 70s, as a protest against the Vietnam War. Chicano students and families grew frustrated watching their loved ones be killed by the U.S.—forced to fight for the rich man in an imperialist war against the brave Vietnamese people fighting for their own national liberation.

Despite violent repression from the police, tens of thousands of Chicanos rallied in East Los Angeles and across the country to demand an end to the U.S. war in Vietnam. This day of popular resistance gave rise to Chicano Liberation Day!

TODAY:
The U.S. continues this pattern of sacrificing the poor for the rich man's profits—pouring trillions into wars and aggression against Iran, Palestine, Venezuela, and Cuba—while everyday people struggle to meet basic needs, police are further militarized, activists are arrested, and ICE thugs are sent onto our streets to separate families.

We refuse to accept these conditions.
We refuse to back down.
We refuse to be silent.

We are carrying forward our gente's legacy of resistance.

In commemoration of the Xicano Moratorium, Community Service Organization - Oakland is hosting a film screening of "20 years y que? / 20th National Chicano Moratorium Commemoration (1990)."

The event will center Chicano liberation and the present fight for immigrant rights! The program runs 2–4:30 PM on Saturday, August 22. At around 3 PM, there will be a panel with Carlos Montes joining us via Zoom!

El jueves 13 de agosto, Oakland se levantó en solidaridad con los inmigrantes haitianos, en defensa del TPS y para exigir la legalización para todos.

Atendiendo al llamado a la acción de la red Legalization For All, organizaciones de derechos de inmigrantes del Este de la Bahía se concentraron en el centro de Oakland para protestar ante la cancelación del TPS para haitianos, y tras los recientes informes de que el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional está ordenando que inmigrantes haitianos en Ohio usen monitores en el tobillo hasta sus audiencias de deportación, o ser deportados de inmediato.

No nos vamos a quedar callados mientras nuestras comunidades enfrentan estos ataques abiertamente ra***tas y antiinmigrantes por parte del gobierno de Trump.

¡Alto a la deportación masiva de haitianos!
¡Defendamos el TPS!
¡Legalización para todos ya!

Stop Trump's attacks on Haitian immigrants!

This Thursday, we're joining Legalization For All call to action to defend TPS and stand in solidarity with our Haitian immigrant community.

Earlier this month in Ohio, Haitian immigrants received letters from DHS ordering them to wear ankle monitors until their deportation hearing or be deported immediately.

We condemn these racist attacks and we refuse to stay silent while ICE/DHS separates families and attacks our targets our communities.
