Congratulations to Oakdale Area Volunteer Firefighter Al Elkins for earning his Live Burn Certificate yesterday at the Tennessee Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy.

We would also like to recognize Firefighter Andrew Bowman, who earned his Live Burn Certificate last week. These accomplishments bring Oakdale Area Volunteer Fire Department to 7 firefighters who are certified and able to make entry into a structure fire and perform interior firefighting operations.

We also want to congratulate Firefighter Zack Burney for passing his AEMT National Registry. This brings our department to 9 medically trained responders, ranging from EMR to Critical Care Paramedic. In addition, two more members have completed their medical training and are currently awaiting their National Registry results.

Oakdale Area Volunteer Fire Department is training hard, growing stronger, and continuing to build the skills needed to keep our community safe. Our members are putting in the time and effort to serve the Oakdale Area in the very best way possible.

🔥 Training Never Stops at Oakdale Area Volunteer Fire Department 🔥

Oakdale Area Volunteer Fire Department members recently spent time sharpening several important skills, including CPR training, pump operations, drafting, and using a jet siphon.

Training like this helps our volunteers stay prepared to serve our community when the call comes in. Whether it is a medical emergency, structure fire, brush fire, or water supply operation, these hands-on drills build teamwork, confidence, and readiness.

We are proud of the dedication our volunteers continue to show as they work to improve their skills and better protect the Oakdale area.

Saturday training day at Oakdale Area Volunteer Fire Department.

Today our volunteers gave up part of their Saturday to sharpen their skills on pump operations and hose testing. Training like this is essential to making sure our equipment is ready and our firefighters are prepared when the call comes.

We are proud of the dedication shown by this team. While many people were enjoying a day off, these men and women were investing their time in learning, improving, and serving our community. That kind of commitment says a lot about the heart of a volunteer department.

We are thankful for every member who showed up, worked hard, and continues to make Oakdale stronger and safer.

100% Volunteer. 100% Committed.

We don't want to "spring" an unwelcome surprise on you, but Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 2 a.m., when all clocks should "spring forward" one hour to 3 a.m..! Tennesseans should use the opportunity to check the batteries of their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure these important devices are functioning.

Remember: Most fire fatalities occur at night while victims are sleeping. The harmful smoke and toxic gases generated by a home fire can cause people to sleep more deeply which reduces the likelihood of escaping a home fire. Working smoke alarms can alert a home’s sleeping residents thereby doubling the chances of survival by increasing the amount of time residents have to escape a house fire.

Need working smoke alarms? Contact your local fire department and ask if they participate in our "Get Alarmed, Tennessee!" free smoke alarm program!
