El pasado viernes 29 de mayo, personal de las áreas de Turismo, Desarrollo Comunitario y la Unidad Municipal Ambiental (UMA) de la Alcaldía Municipal de Santos Guardiola tuvo el honor de participar en una exitosa jornada de pesca organizada por Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA) en la comunidad de Punta Gorda.
El evento se llevó a cabo en el restaurante Wagundan y contó con la participación de pescadores locales, quienes demostraron sus habilidades en un ambiente de sana competencia y convivencia comunitaria. Durante la actividad se reconoció el esfuerzo de los participantes mediante la entrega de premios a los ganadores del primer, segundo y tercer lugar, así como incentivos para todos los pescadores que formaron parte de la jornada.
Más allá de la competencia, esta iniciativa también brindó espacios de recreación para los niños de Punta Gorda, quienes disfrutaron de actividades como pinta caritas, juegos y deliciosos refrigerios, contribuyendo así al fortalecimiento de la integración familiar y comunitaria.
Uno de los principales objetivos de esta jornada fue promover la pesca artesanal sostenible y fomentar entre los pescadores la importancia de proteger y conservar los recursos naturales marinos que constituyen un valioso patrimonio para nuestra isla y las futuras generaciones.
El alcalde Sterling Lucas continúa respaldando iniciativas que fomentan el desarrollo sostenible, la conservación de nuestros recursos naturales y el bienestar de las familias de Santos Guardiola.
Last Friday, May 29, staff from the Tourism, Community Development, and Municipal Environmental Unit (UMA) departments of the Municipality of Santos Guardiola had the privilege of participating in a successful fishing tournament organized by Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA) in the community of Punta Gorda.
The event took place at the Wagundan Restaurant and brought together local fishermen, who showcased their skills in an atmosphere of friendly competition and community fellowship. During the activity, participants were recognized for their efforts, with prizes awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners, as well as incentives provided to all fishermen who took part in the tournament.
Beyond the competition, the initiative also offered recreational activities for the children of Punta Gorda, who enjoyed face painting, games, and delicious refreshments, helping to strengthen family and community engagement.
One of the main objectives of the event was to promote sustainable artisanal fishing and encourage fishermen to play an active role in protecting and conserving the marine natural resources that are a valuable heritage of our island and future generations.
Mayor Sterling Lucas continues to support initiatives that promote sustainable development, the conservation of our natural resources, and the well-being of the families of Santos Guardiola.
