Nyssa Police Department The Nyssa Police Department provides 24-hour law enforcement coverage to the people of Nyssa. Nyssa is a small rural community that we are honored to serve.

The department is a full-service law enforcement agency responsible for maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, and investigating crimes within Nyssa. es within its jurisdiction. As of May 2025, the department consisted of a team of full-time and reserve officers. We seek to provide a safe and productive community through our vigilant presence and the outreach of our team. Our mission is executed through Honor, Integrity, and Service. The Chief of Police is Donald Ballou.

Sand Hollow Fire District Burn Ban – Effective June 15, 2026

Sand Hollow Fire Department, in coordination with the other fire departments throughout Payette County, has formally requested that the Payette County Commissioners enact the annual countywide burn ban effective June 15, 2026.
This request is based on several contributing factors, including:
-High fuel loads
-Early seasonal reduction in fuel moisture levels
-Persistently dry underlying conditions across our fire districts

Due to these conditions, the risk of wildfire is significantly elevated earlier than in previous years. As a result, fire agencies are taking proactive steps to help protect lives, property, and natural resources throughout Payette County.
We appreciate the cooperation and support of our community as we work together to reduce wildfire risk during this critical period.

A Memorial Day observance will be held at Snake River Park in Nyssa, featuring a cannon firing ceremony. Please be advised that the firing is part of the program and no cause for concern. This will take place between 11:30 and 12:00 today.
