Today, members of the Rhode Island State Police joined hundreds of Rhode Islanders - many from the law enforcement community - for Move with MADD in memory of Ryan Bourque, a young Jamestown officer who was killed by an impaired driver ten years ago today on his way home from work.

Before the walk, the Rhode Island Troopers Association presented MADD Rhode Island with a check in honor of Casey Bassignani, who was killed in a crash in November of 2025. Her father and brother are Troopers.

In a special presentation, Lieutenant Thomas Chabot reflected on Ryan’s time at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy and the lasting impact he continues to have on those who serve. Since Ryan’s death, his memory has been honored through a special tradition at the Academy — a brick bearing his badge number is carried by a selected recruit throughout the duration of training as a symbol of sacrifice, perseverance, and commitment to service.

We remember Ryan and Casey every day and we continue to work to make our roads safer for everyone who uses them.
