Matt Coleman for City Council, Ward 1

Matt Coleman for City Council, Ward 1 Hello! I’m Matt Coleman and beginning January 2026 I’m serving as Ward 1 Council Representative for the City of North Royalton.

Matt Coleman is the Ward 1 Council Representative for the City of North Royalton, with a goal to ensure that Ward 1 residents are clearly heard in all matters that come before City Council. I’ve lived in North Royalton for over 26 years. As Council Representative, my goals are to ensure that Ward 1 residents are clearly heard in all matters that come before North Royalton City Council, that reside

nts are aware of the legislation being discussed and voted on, and that the business of running the city is open to all. I’ve been fortunate to call North Royalton home since 1999, when my wife, Jane, and I moved here to raise our two young children. We chose North Royalton for its excellent public school system, reasonable cost of living, and attractive quality of life. As our children grew up, our family greatly benefited from the school community, from joining the Albion Elementary PTA to supporting the high school marching band. And as an avid biker and motorcycle rider, I also appreciate the city’s strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the Cleveland Metroparks system. I seek to bring a fresh perspective to City Council, and I will work to best represent the interests of the residents of Ward 1 and the City of North Royalton.

What's Happening?

The North Royalton Timber Ridge neighborhood concrete streets are being replaced. The existing concrete is being cut and removed, the street bed cleaned out and new steel reinforcement installed, and new concrete poured. The curbs are also being replaced. The project is moving through the development in sections, and working on one side of the streets at a time to allow one-way traffic throughout construction. Work is expected to be completed in July.

Affected streets:

Yvonne Drive
Rainbow Lane
Valleyview Trail
Valleyview Court
Lakeview Court

How does this affect me?

When a specific section of the street is under construction, it prevents access to the driveways of individual homes for a period of time. Residents may park vehicles on streets away from the area under construction. The construction may also briefly affect mail delivery, commercial package delivery (UPS, FedEx, etc.) and trash pickup. All services will make best efforts to complete appointed deliveries and pick-ups, and residents are asked to please be patient and flexible.

What should I do?

Please watch for the construction contractor to visit your address prior to the beginning of work on a particular section. Each day the contractor will attempt to contact residents in the area of the upcoming section work to alert everyone to the street demolition before it begins. If the contractor cannot speak to someone at each address directly, a notice is left in the mailbox. Demolition work on the street begins a few days later, so it is important residents watch for the in-person visit or the written notice, and then plan for the driveway to be inaccessible for a period of several days.

Please be alert to changes to trash pickup. The big Rumpke trucks may be limited in certain places and be unable to pick up trash. Please call Rumpke directly at (800) 828-8171 for questions or problems with trash pickup.

I ask for patience and flexibility on the part of residents. The contractor has carefully planned out the project, but circumstances on the ground may affect which specific section is being worked on at any given time (weather, street and soil conditions). As there are cul-de-sacs, curves and other street features affected, specific plans for specific dates may change.

What if I have questions?

We, the City Council Representatives of North Royalton, recently received a list of questions from a resident regarding previous investigations into an October traffic stop, as well as inquiries into decisions made by the Safety Director/Mayor and the Law Department. Additionally, we were provided with a document containing allegations regarding the Chief of Police and the general work environment within the Police Department.

These materials were received on 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. Given the scope of these allegations, Council discussed the matter during an Executive Session. To ensure equity and impartiality, Council President Paul Marnecheck subsequently forwarded these materials to the County Prosecutor’s office to request an independent review.

On 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟭𝟯, we received a response from Chief Mussman of the County Prosecutor's Criminal Division. The office indicated that while the allegations were not criminal, they may be administrative or civil in nature. We remain in communication with the Prosecutor's office regarding a referral to the Attorney General or other appropriate agencies.

Yesterday, Council also received additional documents regarding the appeals for Officer Lowe and Sergeant Rybicki. We ask for the public's patience as we review these materials deliberately and analytically prior to our next Council meeting on 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

We recognize this has been a topic of ongoing concern since before many of us took office. Upon beginning our terms, Council members worked to research and digest information previously unavailable to us. Executive Sessions were held to ensure a full understanding of past events. While the 2025 traffic stop and its immediate aftermath occurred prior to our current oversight, we are committed to addressing the administrative matters now before us.

Until recently, we were unable to speak publicly due to ongoing litigation, appeals, and internal investigations. The Law Department has now cleared us to discuss these matters. We encourage residents with questions regarding these recent developments to attend the 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝟲:𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗠 in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 14600 State Rd, North Royalton, OH 44133.

The journey that began in April of 2025 continues! I've been sworn in and will attend the first council meeting of the year tomorrow, Tuesday January 6, 2026. I've been asked to chair the Utilities committee, serve as vice-chair for Building & Building Codes committee, and be a member to the Stormwater committee. Pending appointment at the first council meeting, I may also be serving as the council representative to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Mostly, I am looking forward to serving as the councilman representing Ward 1!

Please consider a donation to a local food pantry.

As we move into the holiday season, please remember your neighbors that may be challenged with putting meals on tables. The North Royalton food pantry is managed by the Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church, and accepts donations online at https://onrealm.org/RoyRed/-/form/give/now - in the “Fund” option, please select Food Pantry to make a cash donation. These kinds of donations are best for food banks and community pantries, as these organizations know best the immediate needs of the community and have access to make bulk purchases. If you are interested in supporting other local food banks and pantries beyond North Royalton, now is a great time to consider making a donation for our neighbors in need.

Thank you!

As one journey ends, another one begins. I'm very grateful for everyone I have met along the way, it's been quite a ride! As with anything that stands to create positive change, it's all about the people who help make it happen, there's no way I could ever be successful doing this alone. A great family, wonderful neighbors, residents that are engaged and know what's going on, all of these people make this possible. While picking up signs today, I received a lot of waves, honks and thumbs-up. It was a great way to end the campaign, and get ready to join council and serve this great community. Thank you, Ward 1 residents!

Please vote NO on Issue 25.

The Charter Commission tried to solve a problem that was never fully described, and could be dealt with using existing tools.

Passage of Issue 25 would cause an elected official to be immediately unseated and a new council president appointed by the current council. This does not serve residents or the city, and runs contrary to a stated goal of the Charter Commission.

Hello neighbors. It has been so great meeting residents and listening to them speak up about responsible development, improved infrastructure and better representation on City Council. I’ve had so many conversations knocking on doors and getting to meet folks and hear their perspective. As your neighbor representing you, I look forward to serving on North Royalton City Council because it’s time for an upgrade for Ward One.
