DFR IN ACTION - Armed man arrested

Yesterday, your DFR team assisted with this outstanding patrol work on a call involving a person with a gun off Rufe Snow Dr. The drone team provided excellent aerial coverage for the responding team on the ground, as they took an armed man into custody. This is an extraordinary display of cross-jurisdictional teamwork (thanks, Watauga Police Department!) and officer safety using this aerial oversight. Dispatchers can also view this footage and provide critical updates to responding officers during in-progress calls such as this.

A 27-year-old man from Frisco was taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threat of Family, and two guns were recovered during the arrest. We are proud of B-Shift’s work here!

Last night, while you were sleeping, C-Shift officers were conducting patrol near Airport Freeway and Bedford Euless. A traffic stop led to the discovery and seizure of m**h and several guns. Incredible work, C-shift, keeping the streets of NRH safe!

Kudos, team!

As we inch closer to the start of the test program for Drone as First Responder (DFR), we want to share more about the team piloting our drones.

The nearly ten-year-old Drone Team is led by Lt. Rich, with Sgt. Thorpe serving as the team leader. Eight officers and one public service officer make up the remaining pilots. The team trains monthly, with nearly 100 training hours in 2025. Their response flight time in 2025 was logged at almost 70 hours, from crash investigations and missing persons, to aerial coverage to help locate suspects.

The DFR program will be operated 24/7 during our test phase by these pilots, who will be responsible for launching them during high-priority or in-progress calls. Sending the drones ahead of our ground officers can help them get a quicker view of the scene, relaying critical information to responding public safety personnel.

Pilots: Officer Birkes, Officer C. Davis, Officer D. Davis, Officer Gomez, Detective Hodgson, Officer Little, Officer Pinney, Officer Vidal, PSO Herrera Galarza
