This week, LA Family Housing and LAFH Builds turned the page on a former motel site, officially opening The Pano, a permanent supportive housing community in Van Nuys that will create a pathway from homelessness to stability for our most vulnerable neighbors.

This project is especially exciting for us, as we developed the property through California’s Project Homekey, an initiative to convert aging motels into permanent supportive housing. Instead of simply converting the existing motel into housing, we were able to leverage the size of the property to construct a new apartment building, increasing the total number of homes from 48 to 90!

It has been a tremendous privilege to work alongside elected officials, funders, and partners who understand the power of permanent supportive housing to transform communities and change lives. A big thank you to everyone who helped bring The Pano back to life. Your incredible commitment makes projects like this possible; we couldn’t do it without your continued support!

From a 1950s motel, to 90 brand-new homes! This Thursday, LA Family Housing will officially open The Pano, a permanent supportive housing community for people experiencing chronic homelessness located in Van Nuys.

Acquired by LA Family Housing in 2020 through California's Project Homekey, this property has been completely transformed to provide long-term housing and support for our participants. Stay tuned for the grand opening celebration later this week!

Summer is officially behind us, but the celebration isn’t! We are so proud of everything we achieved this season.

In July, LA Family Housing reopened Tyrone House, an interim housing site for families. The site was closed for the past two years while the property owner completed extensive renovations and improvements, including expanding from 9 to 12 family units.

Thank you to:

Because of these organizations' volunteer efforts and donations, we were able to help ensure families have everything they need to settle in comfortably. Residents now have access to 24/7 on-site staff support, larger living spaces, fully equipped kitchens, and areas where children can play safely and families can gather.

Latine Heritage Month has officially begun! Observed annually from mid-September to mid-October, this month highlights the history, traditions, and contributions of Latine communities.

Last year at LA Family Housing, our staff came together to honor this month with music, ofrenda-making, and a spicy salsa-making contest. Celebrations like these highlight the diverse traditions within our community.

We remain dedicated to cultivating an inclusive environment where diversity and cultural exchange can prosper — a space where everyone feels safe, seen, heard, valued, and welcome for who they are.

It was over 100 degrees last week, and volunteers from across our city still showed up to help set up 91 rooms at our newest PSH site, The Pano.

These room set-ups help prepare the space for the future residents who will call this place home. We fill each room with the essentials they'll need to make move-in day feel a little easier, remind them they're not alone in this process, and show them our community is here to support them in this new chapter and all the ones to follow.

A huge thank you to everyone involved with our Fuel for School event this past weekend at Pacoima Place, one of our housing sites for families. This annual event, hosted by Brian and Emily Soloway, is an important part of making sure families and their children have everything they need for the upcoming school year. It was a fun-filled day of games, snacks, and face painting, all while families received backpacks, shoes, and school supplies.
