Somewhere along the way, adult friendship became:
“We should totally get together!”
And then nobody gets together.
For six months.
Because we're busy.
Because the kids have something.
Because work is insane.
Because somebody has to actually pick the damn date.
So here's my controversial fall suggestion:
Be that person.
Invite them over.
Make chili.
Light the fire.
Tell everyone to bring something.
Plan the girls' night.
Book the tee time before the weather turns.
Host the bunco night.
Go to the brewery.
Invite the new person.
Ask the coworker you've been saying “we should hang out sometime” to for approximately three fiscal years. 😂
It doesn't need a theme.
Your house doesn't need to be spotless.
Nobody needs matching plates.
You don't need twelve weeks of notice.
People need people.
Sometimes all we're actually waiting for is somebody willing to say:
“Saturday. 6:00. Come over.”
Life is the occasion. 🍂
