Team NPD closed out the 2026 Road to Hope on Tuesday, finishing a powerful three-route journey honoring our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward.

Every mile was for the fallen. Every climb was for the families. Every moment reminded us why this mission matters. Our riders were honored to ride, honored to represent, and honored to support those who will always be part of our law enforcement family.

Virginia Ride – 197 miles and 5,300 feet of climbing over three days, with Day 2 shortened due to severe weather.

Pennsylvania Ride – 222 miles and more than 10,000 feet of elevation gain across three demanding days of unrelenting hills.

Ruff Ride – A four-day, mostly off-road mountain bike trek through Maryland, totaling 227 miles and 1,760 feet of ascent in honor of fallen K-9s.

Three routes. One mission. Team NPD is proud to have ridden in remembrance, solidarity, and unwavering support.

We had 15 Team NPD participants on these rides, and – despite their sore legs – we are delighted to say everyone made it home safely.

A special thanks to NPD's Traffic Unit, as three of our motor officers assisted with escorting duties for the bike riders.

Day 2 of Road to Hope continued onward with good weather for the Pennsylvania Route and not so good weather for the Virginia Route.

The Pennsylvania Route covered 90 miles today with a total elevation gain of more than 5,100 feet! The group started in York, PA and finished in Gaithersburg, MD.

The Virginia Route was met with rain and cold temperatures from the onset. As a precaution, ride marshals determined rider safety outweighed the risks associated with the inclement weather. By mid-morning, the ride was called-off and riders were shuttled to their respective destination. They will finish the ride, as scheduled, tomorrow morning!

All participants on both routes displayed great efforts and continued to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while honoring those left behind.

Day 1 of Road to Hope is in the books!

Team NPD had two riders - and three motorcycle officers - on the Pennsylvania Route where they crushed 86 miles and 3,500 ft of climbing from Reading to York. Strong pace, stronger purpose.

Back home, 11 Team NPD riders on the Virginia Route powered through 108 miles to Richmond with 2,200 ft of elevation.

Huge effort by both teams — and they’re only getting started. Two more days ahead!

During National Police Week, May 10–16, we pause to honor the brave men and women who wear the badge and serve their communities with professionalism and sacrifice.

Every call for service, late-night worked, missed holiday, and difficult situation faced is done in service to others.

We are extremely grateful to all of our City of Norfolk Government NPD officers, dispatchers, professional staff, and the families who stand behind them every day as they do this difficult work.

Thank you to all of those who serve 💙🚔

As hundreds of Police Officers across the country are taking part in Law Enforcement United’s Road to Hope this week to honor fallen heroes and support the loved ones they left behind, Detective M. Gruber sat down to explain his reasons behind the many miles logged during these rides. Sometimes heroes wear bike helmets.

Two weeks. Sixteen riders. Countless drills, precision turns, and pushing 800-pound motorcycles to the limit.
Last week marked the end of the Chesapeake Bay Police Motorcycle School, and NPD has plenty to be proud of.

Traffic Officer Snios joined fellow officers from across the Hampton Roads region for the 80-hour Basic Police Motorcycle Course. After successfully completing the two-week course, Officer Snios will now log an additional 80 hours of on-the-job training while he rides alongside a certified NPD instructor.

Before the Basic Police Motorcycle School began, Motor Officer DeLucenay successfully completed a 40-hour Police Motorcycle Instructor Course, and earned his certification as a Police Motorcycle Instructor, which allowed him to take part in the Basic Course as an Instructor for the first time.

Motor officers navigate through traffic with precision when seconds matter.

Their daily duties include leading escorts for dignitaries, special events, and fallen heroes, investigating fatal crashes, and keeping our roadways safe with high-visibility enforcement. Their training is extensive because their responsibility is enormous.

Congratulations to all of the officers who completed the course – and thank you to our NPD Traffic Unit for your continued commitment to keeping our roadways safe.

If you’re looking for a career with purpose and teamwork, consider joining us. Contact a recruiter at NPDJobs.com to learn more.
