Corners Outreach Equipping Metro Atlanta's underserved students of color and their families to lead full lives.

A study from Northeastern University found that high school dropouts cost taxpayers $292,000 over the course of their lives. In the communities where we focus, the Board of Education in DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett states that High School graduation is
70% Caucasians, 64% African American, 55% Hispanics, and 35% ESOL. A recent study shows that students who do not read proficiently by third grade

are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers. So we can be most effective in decreasing the dropout rate by tutoring elementary age students and showing parents the value of education. In 2012, we partnered with Berkeley Lake Elementary to begin an education focused program, Corners Academy, which provides after school tutoring as well as a summer camp in Norcross, GA. Soon after we partnered with two other elementary schools, Hightower Elementary and Beaver Ridge Elementary. While building relationships with the parents of our students, we found that many had more than two jobs. In 2017, we started Corners Industries, a career initiative which exists to break cycles of poverty.

This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the hardworking families who keep our communities moving forward.

Every day, our families show up to work in the industries that power our economy, feed our families and build our cities. And when the workday ends, the work doesn’t stop.

They’re helping their children with homework. Learning new skills. Working toward a GED. Pursuing better jobs. Showing up for their families. And taking steps, day by day, toward a brighter future.

We’re honored to walk alongside families as they work toward greater stability, economic opportunity, and a brighter future for themselves and the generations to come.

We’re officially starting our 15th year of afterschool programming!🎉

It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come.

What started with volunteers gathering in apartment complexes to tutor students has grown into a dedicated team of staff, educators, mentors, and community partners all working toward one goal: helping kids thrive. 💙

We want to take this moment to thank EVERYONE who has helped us get here, every volunteer, every parent, every teacher, every school admin, every staff member, every donor, every community partner.

Meet Jose Nieto Sr.! 💙

Jose first connected with Corners through his son, one of our incredible high school students. As his son became more involved in our programs and community, Jose began showing up too, becoming part of the Corners community himself.

After attending several of our Industry Nights, Jose expressed interested in an opportunity with one of our employment partners, Southeast Toyota Distributors. Although he was a little older than the typical candidate, he was hired and within just two months, he moved into a full-time position with benefits, PTO, and a pay raise. 💪🏽

But this story is about more than a new job... career growth for one parent can create new possibilities for an ENTIRE family.

Jose’s son can continue focusing on his future, and we know it’s a bright one! He has served as a lead assistant to teachers, as a soccer mentor and referee, and even interned with Corners Roasters.

His journey with Corners started long before his dad found his next career opportunity. And now, we get to watch that impact continue to grow across the Nieto family. ✨

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, creativity, and connection that music brings.

But we need your help! Do you or someone you know have a gently used instrument?

We are hosting a Music & Instrument Drive to help provide our students with the instruments and resources they need to learn and grow.
