Corners Outreach Equipping Metro Atlanta's underserved students of color and their families to lead full lives.

A study from Northeastern University found that high school dropouts cost taxpayers $292,000 over the course of their lives. In the communities where we focus, the Board of Education in DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett states that High School graduation is
70% Caucasians, 64% African American, 55% Hispanics, and 35% ESOL. A recent study shows that students who do not read proficiently by third grade

are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers. So we can be most effective in decreasing the dropout rate by tutoring elementary age students and showing parents the value of education. In 2012, we partnered with Berkeley Lake Elementary to begin an education focused program, Corners Academy, which provides after school tutoring as well as a summer camp in Norcross, GA. Soon after we partnered with two other elementary schools, Hightower Elementary and Beaver Ridge Elementary. While building relationships with the parents of our students, we found that many had more than two jobs. In 2017, we started Corners Industries, a career initiative which exists to break cycles of poverty.

This summer, 31 Camp Counselors in Training are making a difference at Corners! ☀️

Twenty-six of our CCITs are assisting teachers in the classroom, while five are supporting staff members across our organization. These high school students are volunteering their time to gain real-world work experience while giving back to the community they care about.

Through hands-on learning, they are developing professional skills, building confidence, and learning what it means to be part of a team. At the same time, they are serving as role models and mentors for the younger students looking up to them every day.

We're proud of each of our Camp Counselors in Training and grateful for the impact they are making this summer. 💙

The students were very excited to collaborate on this project, and it was so wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm.

With the excitement of the World Cup this summer, I am sure our students will be watching many goals being scored on the field. More importantly, they will continue making goals of their own as classmates — working together, supporting one another, and growing as a team. 💪

Meet our newest team member, Jeniffer! 💙

Jeniffer is our new Music Director at Corners Academy. As someone whose own life was shaped by a passionate music teacher, Jeniffer is excited to share her love of music with the next generation.

She hopes to show students just how important the arts are and inspire children to sing, dance, and play instruments as they discover what sparks their passions.

One thing she wants students and families to remember: growth takes time, so give yourself grace and find gratitude in each day.

Some fun facts about Jeniffer:
🎻 Her favorite subjects in school were Language Arts and Orchestra.
🌶️ Her favorite snacks are Hot Cheetos and Takis.
🏙️ She lived in Chicago for two years and loved every minute of it.

Early Learning Camp is helping our youngest students get ready for kindergarten this fall, and watching that journey unfold is such a joy. ✨

For many of these little ones, this is their first time spending time away from home. What starts with tears and uncertainty quickly turns into friendships, teamwork, and excitement for learning.

Just ask Dilan, who is all smiles in this picture. These days, he wakes up telling his mom, "Mommy, let's go! I want to go to school!" 💙

Seeing children grow in confidence and develop a love for learning is a beautiful reminder that every new experience is an opportunity to bloom. We can't wait to see how much more these little learners will grow this summer! 🌱📚✨

Last week, we celebrated the return of music classes, and our students couldn't be more excited. 🎶

We're thrilled to welcome Jeniffer Chow as our new Music Director. Her classes are already a favorite as she combines students' interests with the fundamentals of music, creating a fun and engaging environment where every child can grow.

We can't wait to hear all the beautiful things they'll create together! 💙
