The second week of April is recognized each year as โNational Public Safety Telecommunicators Weekโ, bringing well-deserved attention and recognition to the public safety dispatchers who are an invaluable, vital part of the public safety team.
During this week (April 10-16, 2022) we formally acknowledge them for their contributions and sacrifices as Public Safety Dispatchers. These very unique people, that Newberg-Dundee Police is honored to have, are the voices that assure rapid response by police, fire, and medical personnel in the midst of all emergencies and are often overlooked for the critical role that they play in coordinating first response and lifesaving efforts. They are the lifeline that ensures the continued protection of the front-line first responders and the citizens they serve. These individuals work around the clock, on holidays, birthdays, often missing family and school functions, and immediately jump into action to help whenever they are called upon.
The Newberg-Dundee Police Department relies on and greatly appreciates our Dispatchers. Dispatching is a highly difficult and incredibly important job constantly changing and growing.
NEWCOM dispatchers respond quickly to unexpected emergencies, every single day at any time of the day. They play a crucial role in the lifesaving process, providing an invaluable connection between emergency services and the people who need them. We are very thankful for the men and women who shoulder this responsibility, and we recognize the invaluable assistance that they provide to our community.
Telecommunicators Week began in Contra Costa County, California in 1981 and quickly grew to become a national week of recognition. Just ten years later, Congress officially designated the second week of each April as a time to remember the critical role that dispatchers play in keeping us all safe.
Between the Thin Red Line and the Thin Blue Line, Lies the Thinnest Gold Line.
