The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (“PVSC”) recently took part in the annual Science Expo and Cleanup at the Great Falls in Paterson in collaboration with the National Park Service. The event also featured other government agencies, local businesses, community organizations, and environmental groups, all working together to educate the public about protecting waterways and preserving the environment.

PVSC Holds Annual Reorganization Meeting;
Murphy, Quintana and Calabrese Re-Elected to Leadership Posts; Memorial Bench Dedicated In Honor Of Former Commissioner Mildred Crump
Commissioners Brendan Murphy and Luis Quintana were re-elected Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively, at the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission’s (“PVSC”) Annual Reorganization Meeting held yesterday. Additionally, Commissioner Elizabeth Calabrese was re-elected Board Treasurer and Thomas Fuscaldo was appointed Clerk to the Board of Commissioners. Following the Reorganization Meeting, representatives of PVSC and various local dignitaries gathered to dedicate a memorial bench (right) in honor of former Commissioner Mildred Crump, who served with distinction on PVSC’s Board from 2015 to 2023.

The American Council of Engineering Companies (“ACEC”) recently celebrated the 2025 recipients of its annual Engineering Excellence Awards during a banquet held at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe, New Jersey. The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (“PVSC”) received the ACEC’s esteemed National Recognition Award, honoring PVSC for the development and implementation of its groundbreaking Resiliency Program.

PVSC Presents Perfect Compliance Awards For 31st Year; Sika Achieves 29-Year Streak
The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (“PVSC”) is marking 31 years of recognizing industrial users for perfect environmental compliance—an achievement underscored by Sika Corporation of Lyndhurst, which has now earned the honor 29 consecutive years, every year since the program’s third year.
This year, PVSC honored 123 permittees that operated throughout the previous calendar year without incurring a single effluent (wastewater discharge) or reporting violation.
Each facility that completes a full calendar year without a violation earns a PVSC Permit Compliance Award. There were several repeat honorees in addition to Sika Corporation. They include Anheuser-Busch, Inc., of Newark (20 consecutive years), Royal Wine Corp. of Bayonne (18), A&B Famous Gefilte Fish, Inc., of Paterson (14), WY Industries, Inc., of North Bergen (14), and Monmouth County Reclamation Center of Tinton Falls (12). Also reaching 10 consecutive years of perfect compliance are American Wear, Inc. of East Orange, Fenimore Landfill of Ledgewood, Fisher Scientific Company of Fair Lawn, Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc., of Clifton, Miller & Son, Inc. of Belleville, and Purrfect Laundry of Paterson.

Chris Brooks of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission Honored with Prestigious Alliance for New Jersey Environmental Education Award
At its recent Winter Conference held at The College of New Jersey, the Alliance for New Jersey Environmental Education (“ANJEE”) announced the recipients of its 2025 Excellence in Environmental Education Awards. These accolades celebrate individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to environmental education. Among the award recipients was Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (“PVSC”) Multimedia Program Coordinator Chris Brooks (left), who oversees and operates PVSC’s Pollution Prevention Educational Outreach Program. Brooks received the Outstanding Environmental Educator in the Non-Formal Sector Award. ANJEE Awards Chair Pat Heaney (right) presented the prestigious honor to Brooks.
