Earlier this month, we moderated a discussion during an event organized by the United Nations Local2030 Coalition as part of Financing for Development Week in New York City.

The conversation brought together key voices to reflect on the role of local and regional governments in advancing subnational finance; taking stock of what’s working, what isn’t, and how to move forward in delivering on the Sevilla Commitment.

Speakers emphasized the need to overcome persistent challenges and scale efforts to effectively localize finance, reinforcing that stronger coordination and partnerships are essential.

We thank the Local2030 Coalition and all speakers for a thoughtful and productive exchange.

"If we get cities right for young people, we get the future right for everyone".

Earlier this month, at the ECOSOC Youth Forum, this message took center stage during the Conversations with NoW event at UN Headquarters.

With 350 million children and youth living in informal settlements worldwide, the urgency is clear. Young people are not just participants, they are essential partners in shaping sustainable, inclusive cities.

Yet, meaningful engagement in urban governance remains limited.

The way forward? Moving beyond participation to true co-creation; placing young people at the heart of solutions to the housing crisis and the future of our cities.

We continue to advocate for meaningful, co-creative roles for young people in shaping SDG 11. 🌱

Earlier this month, alongside UNEP, we co-organized the event “SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Co-creating Safe, Resilient and Green Urban Futures with and for Youth.”

The discussion brought together diverse voices to explore the priorities shaping our urban future; from youth leadership and governance, to housing and climate justice, technology and data, and safer, more resilient cities.

Achieving the SDGs requires an urgent, intergenerational, all-hands-on-deck approach—one that empowers young people not just to participate, but to co-create solutions and drive implementation.
