We talk a lot about resilience. We rarely talk about the cost of it.

Black men are navigating systemic pressure, family responsibility, and emotional suppression — often simultaneously, and often alone. That’s not strength. That’s survival mode.

The conversation around Black male mental health needs to move from admiration of endurance to genuine support for healing.

What would change in your workplace or community if Black men felt safe enough to say “I’m not okay”?

The anxiety you cannot name has a history older than you.

Hypervigilance. Disrupted sleep. A dread with no clear source. For many people of colour this is epigenetic. Passed down from ancestors who survived slavery and racial oppression.

Surviving is not thriving.

Turn off the news. Read a real book. Try a colouring book. Pick up something with your hands. Take your mental space back.

Hypervigilance is a mechanism. Not a permanent address.

You didn’t choose your values. You caught them.

Kareem Collins never had a lesson on generosity. He just watched his family show up for people, again and again, until it became the only way he knew how to move through the world.

That’s how character actually gets built. Not in a classroom. In your house.

Nobody talks about the days you don’t feel like showing up. That’s the real test.

The conversation with Kareem Collins continues.

What it really means to show up, not just for yourself, but for others too.

Some days you feel locked in. Some days you don’t.
But the standard stays the same.

Lead anyway. Stay committed.
Because the mission is bigger than how you feel.

The conversation with Kareem Collins continues.

He’s breaking down what it actually looks like to live it day to day.

Gratitude. Objectives. Leading the people watching you right now, not tomorrow.

We enter this world alone. We leave it the same way.

In between, we find people who make us forget that for a while.

Orson Welles said it best.

What relationship in your life has made you feel least alone? Drop it in the comments.

Grief does not follow a straight line, and that is okay.

It can show up after losing a person, a pet, a job, or a relationship. It can arrive all at once or slowly, over time. And it rarely looks the same for any two people.

The five stages, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, are one way to understand it. But healing is not a checklist. It is a deeply personal process that takes as long as it takes.

If you are going through something right now, be gentle with yourself. Your feelings are valid, and you are not alone.

Save this post and share it with someone who might need to hear it.
