Kings Against Violence Initiative - KAVI

Kings Against Violence Initiative - KAVI Violence, in particular youth violence, should be looked at as a disease much in the same fashion as diabetes, hypertension or heart disease.

KAVI is a nonprofit that works to prevent & eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community action & advancing social justice with programs in hospital-based, school & community settings. Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) is a hospital-based, multi-dimensional, youth violence intervention and prevention program targeting urban you

th in Brooklyn, NY who are at risk for gun violence, gang involvement and/or violent injury. While this is a “disease” intervention program that targets specific behavior and risk factors associated with violent behavior and gang involvement, it will have a strong community- based component which is linked to a wide range of support services. Upon successful launching of the program, KAVI will interrupt the cycle of violence in Brooklyn by indirectly lowering the number of violence-related injuries seen in Brooklyn related to gun violence.

This past Gun Violence Awareness Month, we joined the citywide Kick-Off Press Conference at the beginning of the month and walked together at our Peace Walk at Kings County Hospital at the end of the month to honor lives impacted by violence and reaffirm our commitment to prevention, healing, and community.

The work doesn't end with June—and neither does our commitment.

Join us for Cuts & Culture where we'll create space for honest dialogue, community connection, and collective learning. This session will focus on healthy relationships, gender norms, and intergenerational dialogue around intimate partner and sexual violence.

Barbershops and beauty salons have long been trusted spaces where stories are shared, culture is shaped, and communities come together. We hope to continue that tradition through conversations that challenge, educate, and inspire.

April 19th, 2026 kicks off National Crime Victims Rights Week. National Crime Victims Rights Week acknowledges the barriers that victims have overcome as well as highlighting the services that are offered supporting victims of crime and violence. Here at KAVI we strive to make survivors' voices heard. Ashley Khan, our case manager, shares some of the programs that KAVI offers through our Pathways Program.

Since opening its doors in August 2024, Pathways has fostered a safe space to help start the healing process for victims in a non institutionalized setting. Pathways has been able to provide assistance through offering housing resources, legal resources, and financial resources.
