This 1857 post-and-lintel multi-level watchtower is one of the oldest stand-alone cast-iron structures in America. It is a significant precedent to the modern steel-frame high-rise construction that defines city skylines in America and worldwide. It is the only remaining of a series of watchtowers that were part of the NY Fire

Watchtower system, a predecessor to the FDNY (founded in 1868). It is an individually-designated NYC Landmark (1967) and it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places

The Urban Park Rangers will open the tower at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Saturday if anyone wants to go up and enjoy the view.
