Come visit Stonewall National Monument on Saturday August 1 for the second annual American Sign Language (ASL) Day! There will be free walking tours starting in Christopher Park at 11 AM, 1 PM and 3 PM accompanied by ASL interpreters. There will also be special programming with ASL interpreters inside the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. See you August 1!

Happy 10th birthday to Stonewall National Monument! On this day June 24, 2016, Stonewall was designated as a national monument by President Barack Obama. Over the years, Stonewall has grown, most notably with the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in June 2024. As the first National Park Service site dedicated to telling the history of the gay civil rights movement, Stonewall National Monument is a special place for both visitors and the rangers who interpret that history every day.

🌎Happy Earth Day! Stonewall may be in New York City, but there is a small slice of nature inside the boundaries of the national monument at Christopher Park. The NPS takes care of Christopher Park alongside the wonderful volunteers at the Christopher Park Alliance. Did you know that Stonewall National Monument is NOT the smallest site in the National Park Service? It's not even in the top 10!

That's because the Stonewall NM boundaries, highlighted in the picture above, include 7.7 acres of the Greenwich Village streets surrounding The Stonewall Inn. While the Stonewall Uprising started because of a police raid on The Stonewall Inn in 1969, it mainly took place on the streets nearby. Protesters used their knowledge of the confusing Greenwich Village neighborhood layout to evade & taunt police for hours, particularly on the first two nights of the Uprising that lasted from around 1 AM until 4 in the morning.
