Starting this Tuesday, September 8th residential properties with 1 to 9 units will be subject to fines. Those buildings must use official NYC Bins or face $50 fines. Those bins are available for sale at all Home Depot stores (and some homeowners can be reimbursed for their purchase through Tuesday).

To clarify, an official NYC Bin is required for trash setout. Compost material can be set out in any bin that is properly marked “compost” and has a lid, and recyclable materials can be set out in any container, or in a clear or blue plastic bag.

Recently, I joined 60 of my colleagues on a letter to Governor Hochul calling on her to sign the Responsible Data Center Development Act, which passed the Legislature in June with bipartisan support.

Last month, Governor Hochul issued an Executive Order implementing a one-year moratorium on the issuance of any permits or other agency actions by the Department of Environmental Conservation for the construction of new large-scale data centers.

The governor's executive order is a good first step - now it is critical to ensure real and rigorous protections are put in place so we can fully examine how data centers are impacting our communities and establish the safeguards New Yorkers deserve.

Friendly PSA as back to school season begins; the Queens Public Library at Queensboro Hill, located at 60-05 Main Street in Flushing, will re-open for public service on Thursday, September 10, 2026, following a closure to replace the building’s HVAC system. 📚

We are pleased to announce that following a closure for an HVAC system replacement, Queensboro Hill Library (60-05 Main Street) will reopen on Thursday, September 10 at 12PM.

The last day of Mobile Library service will be Thursday, August 27.

As a mom, I know firsthand that getting around New York City with a stroller isn’t always easy. Boarding a bus shouldn’t have to add to that challenge.

That’s why I’m proud to have secured $1.5 million in state funding to expand the MTA’s Open Stroller program across all five boroughs.

With designated stroller spaces on buses, parents and caregivers will have more flexibility and less stress when traveling with young children. This is a simple but meaningful step toward making our public transit system more accessible, convenient, and welcoming for families.

Every New Yorker deserves a transit system that works for them — including our youngest riders.
