What does it look like when an Assemblymember visits one of our buildings? It looks like listening to survivors, meeting the direct service staff who support them, and seeing firsthand what it takes to build safe, stable communities.

We’re grateful to Assemblymember Tapia for her advocacy and support, and we look forward to continuing our work together to secure the critical investments needed to strengthen security, expand tenant programming, and open new opportunities for survivors and their families.

We were so inspired by the energy and commitment in the room at the ’s Vision Breakfast! It was an honor to bring DSS Commissioner Dalton, NYC Department of Homeless Services Administrator Henderson, NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) Deputy Commissioner Block Weissman, advocates, and directly impacted community members together to discuss our vision to end family homelessness in New York City. The path forward becomes clearer when we come together, listen, and lead with lived expertise.

As FHC Co-Convenors, we’re proud to keep pushing for a city where every family has a safe, stable home.

Yesterday, we held a rally at City Hall Park to call on Mayor Mamdani to expand eligibility for the program so that the 5,200 New Yorkers — including 1,144 domestic violence survivors and 600 runaway and homeless youth — who rely on NYCHA-administered federal Emergency Housing Vouchers ( ) can stay in their homes. CityFHEPS must be part of the solution.

A huge thank you to Public Housing Committee Chair Council member Chris Banks for holding an oversight hearing that morning and standing with us at the rally. Additional thanks to Safe Horizon, Win, Volunteers of America - Greater New York, Coalition for the Homeless, Inc., Legal Services NYC, and to the survivors who shared their powerful voices and stories.

Shortly after the rally, we hand-delivered 340 signed letters to the Mayor at City Hall. Our thanks to everyone who signed the letter, shared, and supported.

Meet Rachel, who puts in extra time and personal care to create spaces where New Destiny tenants feel comfortable, respected, and seen. From organizing teen movie nights to being someone residents can simply talk to, this is what supportive housing work. But chronic underfunding for the New York State Supportive Housing Program ( ), on which the building relies for services, often leaves staff stretched thin and limits what providers can offer. Last year, the state implemented a small increase in funding for the first time in the last 30 years. Thanks to this change, Rachel has been promoted to Senior Case Manager since filming this video. However, the work is not done, we’re calling on and state legislators to invest $62.1M in the FY27 budget to save NYSSHP and protect the 20,000 households who call these buildings home across the state.
