In challenging times and in moments of emergency, community is not a “nice to have” - it is essential infrastructure.

Since the beginning of Operation “Lion’s Roar,” MAKOM communities across Israel have been there on the ground, responding in real time.

Supporting over 2,500 reservist families
Reaching more than 1,500 elderly residents
Activating hundreds of community-based activities in shelters across the country
Responding to the evacuation of families from cities impacted by missile attacks
Creating safe, supportive spaces for displaced families in hotels

This is not just an emergency response.
This is what community looks like in action.

From Kiryat Shmona to the Negev, our communities continue to show up, strengthen one another, and build resilience, even in the most challenging moments.

Community is the solution.

This Passover marks nearly two and a half years since the dark day of October 7th, and the reality in Israel remains unimaginably harsh. As we prepare to sit at the Seder table, we find ourselves in the very midst of a multi-front war. For over a month, Israelis have been living in bomb shelters, facing daily, lethal missile attacks from Iran and Lebanon.

The entire North, and particularly Kiryat Shmona, is under severe threat. In the South, families in Arad and Dimona have lost their homes, and thousands of reservists have once again left their families to defend the country.

Yet, one message stands clear: we are not broken. We are stronger than ever.

Across Israel, MAKOM communities are at the heart of the home front response-supporting reservist families, assisting the elderly and vulnerable, and standing with displaced families who have lost everything.

The story of this Passover is one of resilience, unity, and the enduring strength of community.

We are Am Echad- one people. Together, we will overcome and move toward better days.

Together with MAKOM Organizations, hundreds of local communities across Israel are mobilizing to support their neighbors and strengthen resilience during these challenging days 🙌🏽

Jewish National Fund-USA-supported community volunteer groups across Israel have moved quickly to assist residents living under emergency measures.

When uncertainty grows, community steps forward. 🇮🇱

As Israel navigates the tense reality of Operation Lion Roar, daily life across the country has been put on hold. Schools are closed, workplaces are quiet, and Purim celebrations that were meant to bring joy to communities have been cancelled as families stay close to protected spaces.

In moments like these, the strength of community becomes especially clear.

Across more than 300 MAKOM communities, our network of organizations and community members is mobilizing to support neighbors and vulnerable residents from the North to the South.

A few examples from the field:

🔹 Sderot – The Mountain Jewish community has activated a Russian-language hotline to support elderly immigrants and vulnerable residents, while organizing activities for children in shelters.

🔹 Kiryat Shmona – Young adults are checking in on seniors, supporting reservist families, delivering holiday packages, and helping clean and prepare public shelters.

🔹 Nahariya – Volunteers are maintaining regular contact with elderly and homebound residents, ensuring they receive ongoing check-ins and personal support.

🔹 Beit Shemesh – MAKOM organizations are coordinating with local partners following recent tragic events and remain ready to support the community.

Across the network, MAKOM organizations and volunteers are also reaching out to 2,000+ elderly residents, distributing hundreds of holiday packages, and mobilizing 4,000 artists to offer cultural and creative programming that strengthens community resilience.

Last night, we were honored to welcome a new Torah scroll into the community synagogue in Acre, home to MAKOM’s local community and the Avner Pre-Military Academy (Mechinat Avner).

Written with love and generously donated by Jewish National Fund - USA this Torah scroll strengthens a space that is far more than a house of prayer - it is a true community anchor, a place of belonging, resilience, and renewal in the heart of the city.

We were also honored to host the JNF-USA Circles of Impact Mega Mission 2026 delegation and to share this meaningful evening together.

Our heartfelt thanks to JNF-USA for your partnership and for your generous donation of this Torah scroll. Your support continues to strengthen communities across Israel - spiritually, socially, and in meaningful and lasting ways.

“Through the Havruta program in Ma’alot, the women came together to create a mosaic of hope. ‘Am Yisrael Chai’ is more than a phrase - it is a timeless expression of resilience, strength, and the enduring spirit of the people of Israel.”

Around 45 inspiring women, most aged 65–80+, took part in creating this collective artwork. What was planned as two sessions grew into six, as they worked together on 20 wooden panels, often continuing one another’s work- a process that required patience, collaboration, and trust.

Within a shared blue-and-white frame, each woman brought her own voice, showing how diversity within a common structure can create harmony and a deep sense of shared pride.

Yesterday, we were honored to host the JNF Solo volunteer Mission at the Hesed Center in Acre, operated by the MAKOM community

Together with members of the
delegation, we packed over 200 food packages that are being distributed to residents across the city. It was a meaningful act of solidarity and care.

Across Israel, MAKOM communities are coming together to celebrate Hanukkah, lighting candles, gathering neighbors, and creating moments of shared joy and belonging.
In living rooms, community centers, and public spaces, each flame tells a story of connection, resilience, and hope.

In Acre, a special candle lighting was held with the participation of two Jewish National Fund - USA delegations currently visiting Israel, creating a meaningful moment of shared celebration, partnership, and connection across communities and borders.

These gatherings remind us that Hanukkah is not only about light overcoming darkness, but about people coming together and strengthening the bonds that weave our communities across the Negev, the Galilee, and beyond.
