OUR PROGRAM PROMOTES SELF-AWARENESS AS CLIENTS GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE STAGES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ITS IMPACT ON INDIVIDUALS AND/OR FAMILIES. AN EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON HELPING CLIENTS TO DISCOVER THEIR UNIQUE PATHWAY AS THEY BEGIN THE JOURNEY TO HEALING AND RECOVERY. ALL CLIENT SERVICES PROVIDED IN OUR CENTER ARE CONFIDENTIAL AND YOU WILL MEET WITH COUNSELORS IN A SAFE,WARM AND CARING ENVIRONMENT.

Huey P. Newton, who helped redefine what Black power and community self-determination could look like, was murdered on this date in 1989 in West Oakland, California.

Newton co-founded the Black Panther Party in 1966, helping build a movement rooted in racial justice, community empowerment, and political organizing. Under his leadership, the Panthers developed programs including the Free Breakfast for Children Program and community health initiatives while challenging police brutality and systemic inequality.

His legacy remains part of the broader story of Black resistance, organizing, and the ongoing fight for justice and liberation. May he continue to rest in power.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families ( ) program. 💙

For 30 years, TANF has provided critical cash assistance to families in need, helping cover essentials like housing, food, utilities, and more. For victims and survivors of domestic violence, this support can be a lifeline.

Financial stability is a critical factor in a victim's ability to leave an abusive relationship and find safety. In NNEDV's most recent Domestic Violence Counts Survey, 79% of domestic violence programs across the country offered survivors support related to public benefits (like TANF) throughout the year.

Survivors and their families deserve access to resources that help strengthen their financial stability and support them as they begin rebuilding their lives.

As we mark TANF’s 30th anniversary, we must continue to protect this vital source of support and push back against policies that create barriers to accessing critical safety net programs.

63 years ago, hundreds of thousands gathered in Washington to demand jobs, freedom, and voting rights. On August 28, 2026, we return to continue that fight.

The right to vote has never been guaranteed. From the first March on Washington to today, Black communities have organized, marched, and built the political power needed to push this country toward justice.

Now, as voting rights face renewed attacks, we’re showing up again.
