East Side House Settlement Our goal is to help motivated students graduate from high school, enroll in college, and build the skills necessary to secure a good job.

East Side House is a community-based social service organization that recognizes education as the gateway out of poverty for the children and families we serve. To do so, we work with schools, commu

nity centers and other partners to bring quality education, resources and opportunities to individuals and families through a wide range of programs. Operating from 28 different program locations, East Side House helps approximately 10,000 residents of the South Bronx and surrounding communities improve their lives each year by providing access to quality education and technology training.

Each day New York City is continuing its transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy, and new job opportunities are emerging across the green energy sector. With these new opportunities, East Side House is excited to help our community members prepare to take advantage of them. 
In partnership with Kingsborough Community College, our JobsPlus program is hosting a free 1-day Bridge to REST trainingcourse designed to introduce participants to green energy technology and careers in this growing industry.

☀️ Staying cool, active, and connected this summer!
 
With hot temperatures outside, older adults in our community are keeping cool and active at our East Side House Older Adult Centers. In partnership with NYC Department for the Aging each of our Older Adult Centers is classified as an official NYC Cooling Center for our members to beat the heat. While there, they participate in many different inclusive activities; from arts & crafts and bingo to billiards and Zumba classes, or if they choose to, they can just sit, relax, and socialize with each other. There is something for every member at our Older Adult Center this summer!

☀️ Summer is in full swing at East Side House’s Accion Academy!

Our middle school students are staying active, learning new skills, and making lasting memories. From friendly games of basketball, volleyball, air hockey, ping pong, dominoes, and Connect Four to hands-on STEAM activities and healthy cooking lessons, every day offers a new opportunity to learn, grow, and connect.

Our summer program provides students with a safe, welcoming, and productive space to have fun and thrive while school is out. 💙

Learning is always worth celebrating! 🎉📚
At our Summer Learning Celebration, students in East Side House’s Summer Programs enjoyed an exciting day filled with hands-on STEAM activities, great food, and plenty of smiles, all while building the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will help them succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Each student also headed home with a brand-new backpack filled with school supplies, ready to start the upcoming school year with confidence.
A special thank you to Councilmember Elsie Encarnacion for championing our community and helping make this event possible through her support of the backpack distribution. We also extend our gratitude to Lambert Treasures Events for transforming the space and A1 Food Depot for serving a delicious BBQ our students loved!

Our SYEP students are proving that summer is the perfect time to grow! 💙📚
This week, our High School Summer Youth Employment Program participants put teamwork into action, creating an assembly line to pack 500+ backpacks with school supplies for students preparing for the 2026–2027 school year.
Beyond earning valuable work experience, these young leaders strengthened their communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while making a meaningful impact on their community. Their dedication is a reminder that leadership is built through service, and they showed up in a big way.

This summer, East Side House is helping participants take the next step toward meaningful careers. 💼👏

Through our Post Secondary Pathways Program, participants completed Security Guard License Training, gaining the knowledge, confidence, and industry-recognized credentials needed to pursue careers in the security field.

Led by experienced instructors, the training covered safety and emergency response, legal responsibilities, and professional security procedures, equipping graduates with valuable skills that strengthen their employment opportunities.

From cheering on the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium complete with a visit to the New York Yankees Museum, to enjoying the fresh sea breeze, local shops, and delicious seafood on City Island, these outings are about so much more than sightseeing.

🎓✨ Big milestones start with little steps.
Last week, our Early Childhood Education students celebrated a major achievement during our Moving On Up Ceremony! From singing and dancing to performing a special play for their families, our Pre-K graduates proudly showcased everything they’ve learned throughout the year.
