There is a growing global understanding about the need for sovereign debt reforms that protect countries and their people from private creditors looking to maximize profits at any cost. Voices ranging from the IMF to Pope Francis have come out in favor of reform in recent years. When we help destroy other countries’ economies, preventing them from providing education, infrastructure, clean water, electricity, and healthcare to their people, not only do the people of that country suffer, but we suffer the ripple effects of that destabilization.

Our faith traditions compel us to show compassion for debtors. New York is uniquely positioned to set fairer rules for dealing with countries that cannot pay their debts.

The SUNNY Act will open the door for millions more New Yorkers to have access to cheap, clean solar power, be part of the solution to the climate crisis, and shave a little bit off their electricity bill every month. Once the market for plug-in solar fully matures, like it already has in Germany, New Yorkers will be able to simply walk into a store, pay a few hundred bucks for a system, take it home and plug it in like any other appliance, and start saving hundreds of dollars every year. This is a small but important step to help New Yorkers fight climate change, save money, and claim real energy independence.

Today the Legislature passed the bill I carry with Assm. Linda Rosenthal to protect tenants in 421-a buildings from unscrupulous landlords pushing misinformation about the duration of affordability restrictions, an issue that many constituents have reached out to my office about.

The completely unregulated data center gold rush will drive up electricity rates for all New Yorkers, threaten grid reliability and precious water resources, and overwhelm our communities. We need to press pause while we enact rational, commonsense rules to protect New Yorkers.

New York lawmakers should enact a moratorium on the construction of power-sucking data centers until the full costs and consequences are understood.

MAGA Republicans' Big Ugly Budget Bill that passed last year will result in hundreds of thousands of NYers losing their Essential Plan health insurance coverage. NYS must step up in this year's budget and protect people from the potentially devastating impacts.

MAGA Republicans continue to attack Americans' most fundamental rights, like access to basic reproductive care. Important to know that, regardless of SCOTUS outcome, mifepristone will still be available in-person in NYS, and misoprostol via telehealth and by mail.

Our rights are in limbo after a district court banned mail access to mifepristone nationwide, even in states where it’s legal. The Supreme Court pressed pause — but for how long?

A tidal wave of data centers is headed to NYS, promising higher electricity prices, more air, water, & noise pollution, and very few jobs - and we are not prepared. We need to press pause by passing my moratorium bill w/ Anna Kelles and Sen. Kristin Gonzalez.

More than 30 data centers seek to connect to NY's grid. They would use more power than Ireland.
