The right to vote was not handed to American women. They wrested it from the hands of power. They marched when they were told to be silent. They went to prison. They endured hunger strikes and force-feeding. They risked their bodies, their freedom, and their lives, because they refused to accept that women were less than equal.

106 years later, we honor their courage by continuing their fight.

We fight for every woman to reach her fullest potential in the workplace, to live free from violence, and to smash every glass ceiling standing in her way.

On Women’s Equality Day, and every day, I will always be yours in that fight. 🇺🇸

I stand in solidarity with Ukrainians across New York—from Queens to Little Ukraine in the East Village—and with the 40,000+ Ukrainian refugees who have made New York their home since Russia’s invasion.

I am deeply disturbed by the alleged ISIS-inspired plot to bomb the New York State Capitol.

I have walked through those doors countless times. So have my staff, and so do the public servants, visitors, and New Yorkers who come to their Capitol every day to petition their government. An attack on them is an attack on all of us and on the democratic institutions that belong to every New Yorker.

I am profoundly grateful to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and to our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. Their work is the reason this ended in a courtroom and not a catastrophe.

We must also confront the forces of radicalization that recruit people into ideologies of hatred and violence. That means countering extremist propaganda and online recruitment, and it means giving people a stronger sense of belonging, purpose, and hope. Preventing terrorism means stopping attacks, but it also means preventing radicalization before it takes root.

Three weeks from the 25th anniversary of September 11th, this is a sobering reminder that vigilance against terrorism and violent extremism is a permanent obligation, one New York has carried every day since.

New York will never be intimidated by terror. We will stand together, protect one another, and defend our democracy.

My new op-ed is out today in the New York Post.

Nine New Yorkers have died in e-bike crashes this year — and the number keeps climbing. In 90% of these crashes, the rider flees the scene: no plate, no name, no way to hold anyone accountable.

I wrote Priscilla’s Law to change that. It’s a simple, common-sense fix: e-bikes and e-scooters should be registered with the DMV and carry visible license plates — the same basic accountability we expect of every other vehicle on our streets.

The DMV has testified it’s ready. New Yorkers across the city support it. After two years of waiting, it’s time for Albany to act.

I’m proud to be on the ground with the Indian-American community across New York State—elevating our voices and helping shape the future of New York.

My parents came to America from India with $300 and one suitcase. Their daughter would go on to make history as the first Indian-American woman elected to New York State office—and pass historic legislation making Diwali a New York City public school holiday, setting a national trend.

Their journey, and the community I have been privileged to represent, remind me that in the greatest country on Earth, anything is possible.

I’ve always believed that leadership means showing up, wherever our community is building the American Dream.

On Indian Independence Day, I reflect on Mahatma Gandhi and the extraordinary power of nonviolence.

Gandhi led India to freedom through peaceful resistance and moral courage. His example crossed oceans, inspiring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and America’s civil rights movement.

That legacy inspired my own path as a civil rights lawyer and public servant—and my belief that courage and nonviolence can change the course of history.

From India to America, that light still shines. 🇺🇸🇮🇳
