The Trump Admin's termination of TPS for Haitian immigrants is cruel and harmful on many levels. Among them: fraying our already-crumbling care infrastructure.

"Immigrants make up 30% of the country’s direct care workers... And that share is especially high in New York State, where the study found 60% of direct care workers are immigrants."

Trump's ending Temporary Protected Status for Haitians has implications beyond the immigrant community.

Last week, over 450,000 New Yorkers lost health insurance coverage because Governor Kathy Hochul prioritized $$$ interests over her constituents' health care.

“New York will likely see the rate of uninsurance return to over 10% where it was before the passage of the Affordable Care Act,” said Emily Eisner, the Executive Director of Fiscal Policy Institute.

Due to federal cuts, the state Essential Plan will no longer be able to offer health insurance to those who make between 200% and 250% of the poverty level. This leaves 450,000 state residents uninsured.
