Celebrating and Honoring the lives of Jack and Betty at Historic Huguenot Street and with our New Paltz and Ulster County Community was enlightening.

Everyone showed up and enjoyed the experience and kept each other warm while braving the extreme cold temperatures.

We can’t say thank you enough to our wonderful community who always comes out and participates and supports programming, dedicated to learning about black history in New Paltz.

Let it Shine! Celebrating the Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At The Rosendale Theatre, on Monday, January 19, 2026.

3:00 PM Live Presentation
5:00 PM Screening of “King in the Wilderness” (TV 14)

Rev. Dr. King lived an extraordinary life, cut tragically short on April 4th, 1968. The world has changed greatly since then, but his words are no less poignant than they were the day he spoke them. Join us as we pay tribute to his legacy with a multimedia event featuring spoken word, song, dance and film.
Our live community program will explore the Principles of Nonviolence facilitated by local leaders including Kitt Potter, Micah Blumenthal, Albert Cook, Rev. Evelyn Clarke, Miss V., Anthony Dandridge, Women of the World, Esi Lewis, and Energy Dance Company.

Let it Shine! will end with a celebration of Dr. King's Birthday and cake will be served.
After a short break, the event will conclude with a screening at 5:00 PM of “King in the Wilderness”. Picking up in the film years of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, Peter Kunhardt’s King in the Wilderness follows the civil rights leader’s struggle to hold together principles of non-violent protest in an increasingly violent era and the resulting criticism he received from all sides of the political spectrum. King in the Wilderness offers a closer look at King as a human being struggling to make the world a better place. The film is rated TV 14 due to discussions of violence, racism, and some profanity.

This Event is FREE & Accepting Donations
