Thank you! Because of your support, the movement to rebuild the Louisiana Democratic Party is strong.
Blue Reboot-backed candidates won a majority of their races and helped secure a total of 60 seats on the DSCC — roughly a third of the committee — in last Saturday’s election. And as further proof that Louisiana Democrats want new leadership, the candidate we supported beat Katie Bernhardt for her own DSCC seat with a whopping 64% of the vote!
We shed an unprecedented amount of light on these party races, and highlighted just how critical they are. Part of our mission was making sure Democratic voters learn more about the role they can play in electing party leadership every four years. You can bet they will now be paying more attention to how their DSCC members vote in the upcoming Chair race.
We also believe running people in as many races as possible — even those we know we are unlikely to win — is important. Giving voters a choice leads to conversations about Democratic politics that don’t happen otherwise. While some candidates Blue Reboot supported ran opposite Democratic elected officials, this movement was never about working against them. Our ultimate goal is to build a Democratic Party that is strong enough to support all our great Democratic office holders and free them up to take on the hard fights we have ahead of us.
What's most important is that this statewide endeavor has successfully started to build the bench for the next generation of Democratic candidates in Louisiana. This year, the number of contested races was up by 33% thanks to widespread grassroots recruitment efforts, which brought together diverse candidates from across the state. A new generation stepped up, including many Gen Z, Millennial, and LGBTQ+ candidates, and we were so proud to support them. For many of them, it was their first campaign... and we certainly hope it’s not their last.
Our candidates collaborated with each other, lifted each other up, and learned so much about what it takes to run modern campaigns focused on direct voter contact. We offered data, technology, training, and hands-on support to all of them — all while raising tens of thousands of dollars to amplify their campaigns through videos, digital ads, media outreach, and more.
Our victories provide a template for how Democrats can win in Louisiana. If the incoming party leadership will raise the money and build the infrastructure to support it, we can replicate this model to make Jeff Landry a one-term governor.
Many Democrats are now saying they see a glimmer of hope for the first time in a really long time. Thank you, again, for all the help you gave in spreading that hope far and wide across our state.
