Party: Independent
Position sought: New Castle Mayor
Biographical info: Inventor, retired small business owner, grandfather.
Age: 65
Municipality of residence: New Castle, North Hill Historic District
Biography: Born in 1953, I was raised in Campbell, Ohio when it was called, “The richest city in the nation” based on per capita income per household, not because there were multi-millionaires but because all our residents had jobs! The steel-mills were booming. Big and small businesses were flourishing. What a great time and city to grow up in. By 1969, I witnessed and experienced my city’s decline to become one of the poorest and I know why.
Graduating from Campbell, Memorial High School in 1971, I started my adult journey in Daytona Beach, Florida then known as “The World’s Most Famous Beach”. While attending Daytona Beach Junior College, selecting to major in Business and after making the Dean’s List, I took on and started my own small business in the Hospitality Industry called “The Gift House”. After successfully competing on South Atlantic Avenue for 16 years, our beach side’s thriving business climate and direction was ended by Home Rule (politics/policies).
With one wife, three children, two cats, and a boat, I started working for the largest corporation in the world – Walmart. I started as an hourly on the floor crew not knowing anyone, progressing in time by merit to salary in management. Schooled in Sam Walton’s rules of Operations and Logistics, I was accountable for: 450 associates, scheduling, delegating duties, retail customer service and accounting ‘to Sam’s penny’ on the average of 30 million pennies every 24 hours, over 300 thousand dollars a day.
After I achieved my goal as an associate of 10 years, my next challenge in life appeared. I then decided there was more value in my mind, heart and life to become my Dad’s caretaker 24/7/365, lasting a short and meaningful 2.5 years. My Dad passed and my wife of 25 years, the former Marina Marousis of New Castle, turned to me and said, “I want us to move to New Castle.” I looked at her and fervently asked, ‘for what!? ’ She said, “to take care of my mom.” Eight years later, I’m still living my philosophy to make this world a little bit better than I find it. This is still my challenge, my desire and my qualification, bar-none.
