NBRTA met yesterday at the Sophienburg Museum with approximately 20 present. Keva Hoffman Boardman explained much about the founding of Landa Park and how it started as private property owned by the Landa's. Much fun was had in the early days when it had a hotel with 85 rooms and a ton of water recreation platforms, etc. and cute lifeguards. Then the present park was fenced off at the time of the Landa's deaths for three years. These dark days of the park were finally dispelled when the city bought the land and the neglect and sad parts of the park were cleaned up by NB citizens. Even during the depression progress was made. Dizzy Dean was a pitcher on the NB Tigers team starting many rivalries including the one with Seguin. Beautiful refreshments with an Easter theme were enjoyed while reports were given including a special report by Joe Ramirez about our TRTA March 25 digital Convention Day. Kurt Klein from AMBA signed up those interested to give needed information. Next month on May 6, one hour later at 10:30, will be our Landa Park meeting #16, brunch and special speaker NB Parks director, Jeff Bransford.

NBRTA met yesterday at Canyon High School's Cougar Den. Michelle Grell of Comal ISD logged us into the security system once again. Refreshment time came first and then we all heard an update from the Youth Collaborative leaders Casey Richey and Carrie Skinner. Several NBRTA members added their information into the Teen Collaborative System as volunteers or as short term presenters. They still need more volunteers. Speaking next was Michael Lloyd of NB Housing explaining how government housing programs work already in New Braunfels. Following Michael was Kelly Stallings who added information about programs and long wait lists for the homeless in N.B. NBRTA will collect funds in May for food and shelter programs such as First Footings this May 2026. Margie V. of NBRTA led NBRTA business, reporting on finances and leading our election. Joyce R. made us proud by informing us who the recipients of our two $1000.00 student teacher scholarships were. Paul Padillas invited us to see the production of Our Town at the Brauntex. Paul is Kathy S. former student from NB High. Wrapping the the meeting up before lunch, were AMBA insurance reps, Brad Francione and new rep. Kurt Klein. Our next meeting is at the Sophienburg Museum April 1 at 10:00. Keva Hoffmann Boardman will be speaking about the "dark and bright" history of Landa Park.

NBRTA met this past Wednesday at the NB Main Library. It was a time of NBRTA business, political candidates greeting us and an excellent program from LOLA. Three speakers came with LOLA, Esther Pipoly (director), Aaron Seymour (legal and former student of Randy Moczygemba) and Haley Wall (finances).
All three can help anyone with end of life questions for ourselves and others. Aaron surprised us all by donating $1000 to our student teacher scholarship fund. These three speakers were deeply connected to teachers and education. Merrie Fox, later John Stratemann and Doug Miller (daughter in law and principal LeAnn is running for County Clerk) encouraged us to vote. Valentine snacks, coffee, and fruit were enjoyed by the 37 folks in the main meeting room. Our March 4 meeting is at Canyon High School's Cougar Den and it's all about the homeless in New Braunfels.

Retired teachers in New Braunfels once again took up a collection for Blue Santa toy drive to honor the memory of Joann Smith who was a NBRTA member and a founder of Blue Santa in New Braunfels along with her husband. We have done this each year for five years when she was a member and after her passing. This year we collected four toys and $306 dollars in cash. NBRTA remembers her and the good work she did and together NBRTA still does good work as well. Thank you for all who donated. We will do this again next year 2026 on the first Wednesday in December at our annual Christmas luncheon. In the picture is Christine with two of the nice police officers who came to accept the donation..
