Home to great neighborhoods, local businesses, community events, and a proud host city of the Miss Wisconsin Organization 👑. New Berlin is located just West of Milwaukee and is a short drive to Madison and Chicago. Its population is approximately 40,600 people, making it the second largest city in Waukesha County. New Berlin is a relatively young suburb of Milwaukee (only 50 years old), on the edg

e of a metropolitan city that affords its residents the best of both worlds. Its residents share the same unique cohesiveness as that of a small town. It is also a community of involved citizens and civic organizations. New Berlin is proud of their parks, schools and industry that come together to serve as the basis of a quality city.

✅ City Clerk’s Council Connect for May 26, 2026

While Tuesday evening’s Committee of the Whole and Common Council agendas were relatively light, one of the primary discussion items focused on public safety needs and a potential referendum question for the November 3, 2026 Election.

The Common Council heard presentations from the Police and Fire Departments regarding current public safety operations and service needs, followed by a presentation from the Finance Department regarding preliminary funding scenarios.

Following discussion, the Council provided direction to staff to begin public awareness and community outreach efforts related to the potential referendum. Planned outreach will include informational sessions for residents, website resources, and additional opportunities for community engagement and public feedback.

The topic will return to a future Committee of the Whole and Common Council meeting following the informational sessions for additional discussion and consideration. Any referendum question would still require Common Council approval and a formal vote prior to possible placement on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

Once informational sessions are scheduled, details will be shared through the City website, social media platforms, and other communication methods.

Residents or others interested in reviewing the presentations from Tuesday evening’s meetings, accessing supporting documents, or viewing the video recording may visit the City’s meeting and agenda portal here: https://newberlinwi.portal.civicclerk.com/event/1795/overview

Memorial Day is a time for our nation to pause in remembrance of the courageous men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice represents the very foundation of the freedoms we enjoy each day, and this holiday serves as an important reminder that freedom is never free.

We extend our deepest appreciation to all veterans, active-duty military members, and military families whose service and sacrifice continue to strengthen our nation.
