He is the Sheperd that over sees his flock.
The devil doesn't go after the flock, he seeks after the Shepard.
Therefore, the Shepard has to be strong, confident, resilient, powerful and smart because if he is not, the Devil will turn the Shepard.
And if he is taken over by the Devil, the flock will become sheep waiting to be slaughtered.
