Four Metro Council members have served as President Pro Tempore during the 2023–2027 term. The President Pro Tempore is elected by their fellow council members to preside when the vice mayor, who is the president of the Metro Council, is unavailable and to keep Council business running smoothly. You will see the “Pro Tem” presiding during the 6:00 p.m. Announcements & Presentations, in advance of every regular Council meeting.

In accordance with the Metro Code, if the mayor is unable to serve, the vice mayor shall serve as the mayor, and the president pro tem of the Council shall serve as the vice mayor.

Congratulations to Olivia Hill, elected on Tuesday, September 1, and thank you to all previous presidents pro tempore for their leadership and service.

As we move into the final year of this Metro Council term, Vice Mayor Henderson extended her thanks to all committee chairs past and present for their leadership. Twenty council members have served as chairs during this four-year term. These members' extra commitment has strengthened the Council’s work and our city.

The Mayor’s Youth Council gathered in the David Scobey Council Chamber this week for a great conversation on civic leadership and local government. Members heard directly from Vice Mayor Henderson and Council Member Preptit, gaining valuable insight into how the Metro Council works and how young people can help shape Nashville’s future. Thanks to former Metro Council member and current Juvenile Court Clerk Lonnell Matthews for organizing this visit.

We celebrated Mariposa Park’s grand opening on August 22, marking a milestone in creating equitable, accessible green space in Antioch. Attendees enjoyed mariachi music, Aztec dance, and the official ribbon-cutting at this vibrant 10-acre space, with play areas, courts, trails, fields, and majestic trees at its heart.

This month's Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control Paws Across Metro featured dog is Lonestar. Council Member Emily Benedict of District 7 showed Lonestar around Public Square Park, where he greeted everyone in the park.

Lonestar has a trial adoption this week, so here's to him finding his forever home!
