NC Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial Tree My Uncle Chief Wayne Hathaway was killed in line of duty on Friday, July 18, 1997. I started the mem I lost a piece of my heart the day my uncle was killed.

Hi my name is Carie I lost my uncle Chief Willard Hathaway in Sharpsburg NC in 1997. He was amazing father and son, brother and uncle and friend to so many people. I don’t want any officer to go unnoticed.. Unfortunately so many law enforcement have lost their lives in line of duty. On this site I would like for us to Honor our love ones! Create and album and name it after your love one and share

your story and your memories you would like to live on! Let’s support one another and Pray and lift each other up! Losing someone is not easy but having a love one taken from you is devastating. Just recently in Nov. 2013 I wanted to Honor NC Fallen Law Enforcement so I did a Memorial Tree with their picture and EOW on it hanging on the tree. The memorial tree will be annually event and candlelight vigil.

NC Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial Tree First I wanted say thank you to all of our followers and to every agency that hosted the memorial tree for past 11 years.

My family went through a very tough time back in 2024. My 4 year old grandson was diagnosed with cancer in March 2024 and March 2025 God called him home.

I have decided not to put the memorial tree up this year. I will be focusing on my family.
During our difficult time.

From the ODMP:
K9 Draco was shot and killed while apprehending a murder suspect on Paisley Drive in Mount Airy.

Law enforcement engaged in a vehicle pursuit with a man wanted in connection with a double homicide. Around 1:30 p.m., the suspect's vehicle crashed, and he fled on foot. By 3:30 p.m., K9 Draco and his handler tracked the armed suspect to Paisley Drive, where the suspect shot and killed K9 Draco.
The suspect was shot and killed by responding officers.

Please keep the Mount Airy Police Department and K9 Draco’s handler Corporal Hutchens in your prayers.
K9 Draco was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a wanted subject. K9 Draco died a HERO and will be deeply missed.
