Summer should be safe for everyone , but for many, it isn’t. As travel and online activity increase, so do vulnerabilities. Referrals rise. Exploitation rises. And AncoraTN steps in with prevention, crisis response, and survivor‑centered care.

This month, we’re focusing on what it means to stay aware: recognizing the signs of trafficking, understanding how grooming happens (especially online), and knowing how to respond when something doesn’t look right.

We’ll be sharing practical safety tips, Middle Tennessee trafficking realities, and ways you can help protect your community.

Trafficking doesn’t pause for summer, and neither do we. Follow along and share to spread awareness.

At AncoraTN, we work with survivors whose exploitation began online and escalated through threats, manipulation, and isolation. Our trauma‑informed care coordinators respond by offering support, advocacy, and safety-focused care without judgment or pressure.

An evening we won’t forget 💛

Spirit of the Country was more than a concert, it was a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together for a greater purpose. From Chris Janson sharing the stage with his son, to the opportunity to speak about the heart of AncoraTN’s work, every moment pointed back to hope, healing, and the importance of this mission.

Children deserve safety in every space they occupy, including online. As traffickers increasingly use digital platforms to target vulnerable youth, equipping parents and caregivers with knowledge and prevention strategies is more important than ever.

At AncoraTN, we work with survivors who were recruited both online and offline. Prevention starts with awareness and response starts with trauma‑informed, survivor‑centered care.

If you’re worried about a young person’s safety or need support, help is available.

Meet Letricia Idleburg, our Residential Manager here at AncoraTN. Letricia brings years of experience serving children and youth through the Department of Children’s Services in Nashville, Memphis, and Georgia; expertise that strengthens every part of our residential care.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month, a time to recognize the unique vulnerabilities young people face. Letricia shares insight into the overlap between foster care and human trafficking and how each of us can play a role in protecting children and youth across Tennessee.

Can you spot the red flag? 🚩Trafficking often begins with manipulation, not force. Two common warning signs are isolation and debt manipulation. Traffickers may position themselves as the only safe or trustworthy person in someone’s life, slowly cutting off friends, family, and support systems to increase control.

Claims about traffickers using zip ties or marking vehicles have been widely shared on social media but they are not supported by evidence. An analysis of data from the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline (January 2015–August 2022) found zero reported cases of zip ties being used as lures or markers to identify potential victims.

The idea that trafficking primarily involves random kidnappings is a common misconception. Misinformation like this can distract from the real warning signs of trafficking and can ultimately do more harm than good.

Awareness grounded in facts helps communities stay informed and better equipped to protect one another.

Behind every milestone is a story of resilience.

This month, we’re celebrating the wins of the survivors we have the privilege to walk alongside. From program graduations to new jobs and meaningful next steps, each moment reflects courage, growth, and hope.

These are the moments that matter. 💛

Risk factors don’t cause trafficking, but they can increase vulnerability. Although anyone can be impacted by human trafficking, foster care youth, victims of child abuse, and those who identify as LGBTQIA+ have a higher chance of being exploited due to systemic barriers and gaps in access to safety and support.

At AncoraTN, we recognize that trafficking is shaped by lived experiences and systemic barriers. Our trauma‑informed, survivor‑centered care approach is rooted in understanding the real experiences, identities, and obstacles survivors face and responding with dignity, advocacy, and long‑term support.

Awareness helps us protect. Compassion helps us respond.
