We are happy to welcome Kendall Barker to the flock as a seasonal outdoor educator.

Kendall is a lifetime Floridian, originally from Crystal River. She has a degree in Marine Biology from the University of South Florida, and this will be her fourth season in outdoor education.

Kendall enjoys birding, shelling, paddling, and just being outdoors. She is so excited to be here and share her love for nature with all the campers.

This Trail Cam Tuesday highlights a mammal found throughout Florida, the Eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus)!🐇
Eastern cottontails are often confused with the marsh rabbit (Sylvilagus palustris). One way to tell them apart is by how they move. Eastern cottontails typically hop, while marsh rabbits often walk on all fours because of their shorter hind legs.

The sounds of Southwest Florida's birds are now training artificial intelligence at Corkscrew Swamp, helping an app identify species by their unique calls.

Spotted!

Boardwalk volunteer Christine Black spied this green anole foraging in a red maple tree late last week.

Green anoles (pronounced uh-noles) can range in color from emerald green to brownish-gray. They turn dark brown when stressed. Males have a pink or red dewlap (throat fan).

Scientists have determined that the introduction of brown anoles caused green anoles to evolve larger and stickier toe pads so they can climb higher to avoid the brown anoles.

A female Florida softshell turtle (Apalone ferox) was seen in the backcountry by Land Stewardship staff laying eggs. The nesting season runs from late March to July, and the average clutch size is 20 eggs. 🎥: Audubon staff/Allyson Webb
