We are so grateful for the Treatment Courts in Muskegon County! 💙

When we learned that May is National Treatment Court Month, we knew we had to give these amazing teams a shout-out.

Thank you for the work you do every day to support recovery, accountability, and second chances. Through collaboration, connection, and alternative sentencing options, Treatment Courts are helping individuals rebuild their lives and strengthen our community.

We are proud to partner with organizations and professionals who believe that people are capable of change and that recovery is possible.

He came in unhoused and needing a jacket.

What he found was more than that—he found a community, a warm meal, support, and people willing to walk alongside him.

One of these men walked into Fresh Coast Alliance for the very first time today. And if you looked around the room, you never would have known it by the way he was welcomed.

This is why we do this work. 💙

Today brought a little unexpected excitement to Fresh Coast Alliance… a turtle showed up in the parking lot! 🐢

One of our men carefully moved it out of harm’s way, gave it some water, and eventually relocated it to a safe swampy area nearby.

It may seem like a small thing, but moments like these say a lot about the compassion, care, and community growing here every day. Plus, it definitely gave everyone something to talk about! 💙

Fresh Coast Alliance is entering a new chapter as our Executive Director, Joy Sparks, has stepped down from her role.

We are deeply grateful for Joy’s leadership, her commitment to building a healthy staff culture, and staying on in an advisory capacity as we walk through this transition. Her impact on our organization and community is deeply appreciated.

As we move forward, our mission remains unchanged. Fresh Coast Alliance continues to focus on supporting individuals returning home from incarceration and those beginning their recovery journey. Our programs and services continue uninterrupted, and our team remains committed to serving our community with compassion, dignity, and hope.

While the Board of Directors finalizes next steps, we are grateful that Anje Banks, our Clinical Director, is serving as Interim Executive Director during this transition.
We are excited for the future and thankful for the continued support of our churches, donors, business partners, volunteers, and community members who make this work possible every day.

Together, we continue moving forward.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

At Fresh Coast Alliance and ACAC, we know that reentry and recovery involve more than just meeting physical needs. Mental health matters, conversations matter, and people matter.

You are not alone. Asking for help is strength, showing up is courage, and every step forward matters.

Let’s continue building a community where people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to keep going.

Shout out to the Muskegon County Office of the Public Defender for bringing their team to Fresh Coast Alliance’s Reentry Simulation!

We’ve been so encouraged by the feedback coming out of this experience, including this message from one participant:

“We had a wonderful experience and still are talking about it and how it impacted our lives. I’m so glad I went through it. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but so glad I went.”

That’s exactly why we do this—to create understanding, spark conversation, and bring awareness to the very real challenges surrounding reentry. Thank you for being willing to engage, learn, and be part of the experience with us. 💙
