This year, the Student Leadership Council (SLC) at CHMS stepped into a collaborative role, partnering with the American Cancer Society, Grand Valley State University’s REP4 program, and the MAISD Hospitality and Tourism program to carry forward a project led for the past 20 years by Mrs. Kitty Turner-Terry, CHMS Health teacher.
With the support of these community partners and a mini-grant from the Muskegon Community Foundation (We Are The Branches), SLC students participated in a design challenge. Their goal was to take Mrs. Turner-Terry's vision and develop a strategic plan to organize this year’s Relay For Life event.
The event will take place on May 22, 2026 from 8:15 AM–11:15 AM on the athletic field at CHMS (180 E. Laketon Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442). This meaningful gathering brings together 800–900 students, families, and community members.
At Innovation Academies of Muskegon, we are hosting this event to demonstrate that middle school students care deeply and are committed to being responsible citizens. Our goal is to build empathy for those fighting cancer and create a strong sense of belonging within our community. !❤️❤️❤️
