Better behaved than some children.

Not that we would ever want to anthropomorphize Canine Brice, of course.

After a long day of training, working, and being professionally adorable, Brice has claimed her chair, accepted her blanket, and settled in like she has a reservation at a five-star hotel.

Rest well, K9 Brice. You earned it. 🖤🐾

Next-level tailgating at K9 training. 🐾☕

K9 Brice is set up and ready to fuel the day with a Jetboil, a percolator, and fresh ground coffee from Magnum Coffee: Taste of the Exotic.

When training starts early, good coffee and good company make all the difference.

Here’s to a full day of learning, teamwork, and sharpening skills with fellow K9 teams.

🐾 K9 Trail Highlight: How K9 Brice Worked the Track Today

Today’s trail was a great example of how a scent-specific canine helps establish direction of travel when a subject is missing.

The track started at a set of metal open-grate stairs where the subject had been sitting. K9 Brice immediately began to detail the stairs, working carefully to gather the subject’s residual odor left behind at the starting point. She then checked off the people in the group and returned to the stairs to verify the scent source.

That confirmation mattered. After ruling out others present and rechecking the stairs, Brice was able to identify the exit path the subject had walked. From there, she worked the track and we located the subject a short distance away.

This scenario highlights why a scent-specific trailing canine is such an important tool. Without one, responders may not know which direction the subject traveled.

Drones can be a valuable resource in missing person searches, but they still raise an important question:
Where do you begin?
Do you simply fly around and hope to get lucky spotting someone who matches the description?

A trailing dog helps answer that question by providing a starting direction of travel, which can make search resources like drones and ground teams much more effective.

K9 Brice continues to show the value of following odor, confirming the source, and helping turn uncertainty into a focused search.

🐾 K9 Brice is in New Lenox Illinois, today for a Georgia K9 trailing seminar hosted by the New Lenox Police Department.

Canine teams from area agencies, with a variety of experience levels, are coming together to learn, grow, and strengthen their skills as teams. Training opportunities like this help K9 units better serve and protect the communities that depend on them.

Great work, K9 Brice! 👏

🐾 Special Visit

K9 Brice, had the best time meeting some wonderful friends from Denver Air Connection at the Muskegon County Airport Thursday evening — Molly and Petra.

And how sweet is this? Molly has already added K9 Brice to her water bottle! 🖤🐕‍🦺

Thank you, Petra and Molly, for showing Brice some love and for supporting our four-legged Search and Rescue hero. We’re so glad you liked the stickers and trading cards!

📷 Black-and-white photos are something we do not see as often anymore, but they have a way of capturing something timeless.

For much of photography’s early history, images were monochrome. The first permanent photographs began in the 1820s, while practical color photography came much later.

Early color experiments appeared in the 1860s, but color photography did not become widely available to the public until the early 1900s and became more common with color film in the 1930s and beyond.

There is something special about black and white. It removes the distraction of color and brings out the light, shadows, texture, and emotion.

K9 Brice really has a look of beauty: calm, loyal, watchful, and full of heart. Sometimes removing the color lets you see the soul a little clearer.

Always ready for the call. 🐾
