Because we talk to individuals and families throughout the week leading up to laundry day, we typically have a good idea of who and how many people are going to show up.

Except for this past Friday.

We were completely surprised. Shocked, really. And overwhelmed.

We washed the most we've ever washed, approximately 5,100 pounds of laundry for approximately 120 people. In all honesty, things were moving faster than we could keep up with and we're sure we missed counting a couple washes and a few people.

We went through more money than we ever have. We went through entire 5-gallon buckets of laundry soap and most of our other supplies.

But, we got it done.

And we were reminded that this is a huge need in our community, a gap that we are proud to stand in and serve in.

HUGE thanks to our volunteers, and especially to Katey Cooper, Miss Ball State, who sponsored this past laundry day. We say it all the time... we couldn't do the work that we do in the community without our community!

We're excited to announce that Delaware County was chosen as part of the Macro-B expansion project through Overdose Lifeline,Inc.

We believe that when communities are supported, connected, and equipped with lifesaving knowledge and the tools needed to get there, we can reduce overdose deaths and overcome stigma.

What will the trainings involve?
+Understanding substance use disorder
+Overdose prevention and response
+Naloxone administration
+Harm reduction practices
+Good Samaritan laws

These trainings will be available to community organizations, community groups, churches, schools, businesses, and individuals who want to learn how to prevent and respond to overdoses. These trainings will equip community members with the knowledge and confidence to respond in an overdose emergency.

Macro-B trainings include a pre-test and a post-test with a $10 incentive for participants. We are planning our first training for May 14th, with more details coming soon!

We never know what outreach is going to look like.

Some days, it is getting individuals into housing, or rehab, or to a doctor's appointment, or to FSSA to sign paperwork. Some days it is picking someone up from the woods and taking them to get their birth certificate and IDs.

Other days, like today, it's sitting in the woods looking at sheet music that someone just brought back to their camp. Or listening to an individual that just had a health scare, or connecting someone to a service provider, or making plans to get a puppy the help that it needs, or the big dog that food that it needs, or that person the food that they need, the Narcan they need, or really, just the conversation that needs to be had and wants to be had and that people beg to have with someone. It's that connection that people crave. It's just sitting in the woods looking at sheet music and listening.

22 people checked in to do laundry last night.

22 people did laundry for themselves and their families, which trickled out to helping around 62 people.

Over 2,800 lbs of laundry was done.

We filled the laundromat again. There were new families, large families, small families, individuals, kids playing in laundry baskets, people helping us count quarters, people helping each other, and the The Hygiene Ladies! There was only one individual though, that drew us a picture of Pizza King breadsticks. We're attaching it below.

All in all, a busy but real good evening!
