Beautiful sunny day today before the storms, dry roads, and two car wrecks within 3 miles of each other, 10 minutes apart.

Mountain Green Fire assisted Weber Fire District Engine 64 at the crash on I-84 westbound. Driver drove into a rock escarpment at freeway speed near the power plant. Driver was trapped but Engine 131 was able to pry the door to gain access to the patient. A nurse had stopped on the scene to provide medical care before we arrived. (Thank you!) South Weber Fire Department Medic 1 and Ambulance 1 arrived to take over patient care from Weber 64's crew and they transported the driver to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

During the westbound call, Mountain Green Fire and Morgan Fire were alerted to a rollover crash at MM93 eastbound. Mountain Green Fire Chief131 was released from the westbound accident to respond to the eastbound accident which was just 3 miles away. Chief131 arrived to find a rolled travel trailer jack knifed with a pickup truck. No injuries, no fluids leaking or other hazards.

Structure fire response in Mountain Green this evening. A neighbor in the Trappers Point community reported that a house under construction nearby on DeMoisey Peak Dr was on fire. First arriving Chief131 snapped the picture below showing part of the floor on fire. Firefighters initially were unable to access the crawl space where the fire was burning because an access had not yet been cut during the construction process. Mountain Green Engine131 arrived, pulled a hose line and attacked the fire by spraying into the hole that had burned through into the crawl space. The floor had been weakened from the active fire burning underneath. South Weber Fire Department Engine 1 arrived and was assigned by command to cut the floor to provide access and ventilation. Weber Fire District Huntsville Engine 65 assisted with fire attack and entered the crawl space in zero visibility to attack the fire. Morgan County Fire & EMS Engine121 provided the safety standby or “RIT” (rapid intervention team) while Ambulance 141 stood by. Weber Area Dispatch 911 & Emergency Services District helped with our communications. Mountain Green Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Golden Barrett provided the investigation as to cause, a malfunctioning tool. The fire damage was kept to about $30,000, and the bulk of the home will not have to be rebuilt.
Quick and effective work by all Firefighters!
Thank you to all of our Mutual Aid partners and to the Morgan Fire Chief, Brad Wilkes and Deputy Chief Dave Olsen for their invaluable assistance to Incident Command.

It’s been a busy National EMS Week for our firefighters. We have responded to emergency medical calls involving persons passed out, dizzy, fallen (4 different calls), sick, experiencing abdominal pain, hemorrhage, and auto accidents. We also have responded to a fire alarm (burned cookies), a grass fire on the train tracks, a fire assist for an unknown problem, and to assist Morgan with a gas leak and a grass fire.

This morning your Mountain Green volunteer firefighters took part in the wildland fire exercise test, or “pack test”by hiking 3 miles with 45 pounds on their backs. A fun way to start your Saturday! And of course they got to put their training to use 10 hours later helping Morgan at a grass fire at Devils Slide.

Won’t you help us out? We need more volunteer firefighters and medical folks to help our community! This coming wildfire season is predicted to be “significant” in Northern Utah due to our lack of moisture, according to the US Forest Service Predictive Service unit. Please contact Chief Brendel at [email protected] for questions and more information about volunteering.

Remember all the Fallen Firefighters this week! As you pass our fire station, please notice that in the evenings the station is illuminated with red lighting, signifying the National Fallen Firefighters “Light the Night” program in honor of the Fallen. This culminates with the National Fallen Firefighter’s annual Memorial Service this Sunday, May 3rd at 10am EST. This year 204 firefighters will be honored, 97 from 2025 and 107 from previous years. May they all rest in peace, having given the last full measure of devotion to their communities. You can watch the memorial live at the following link: https://weekend.firehero.org/

Your Mountain Green Volunteer Firefighters responded to several emergencies this weekend. The EMS calls for assistance included the auto accident pictured below, along with a stroke and an allergic reaction which required our EMTs to administer a shot of life-saving adrenaline. We also responded to a fire alarm (set off by cooking), and assisted Morgan Fire at an out of control, “controlled burn”.
We are gearing up for a potentially busy wildfire season due to our lack of snowfall, so please consider whether you really need to burn that little pile of sticks or if you can throw it in the trash. Regardless, you’ll need a burn permit to burn (see mgfpd.org). This year so far over half the controlled burns have gotten out of control! Remember YOU are responsible for any fires started by your burn, so please be careful!

Exciting day in Morgan County and Mountain Green! The Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 steam locomotive paid a visit to Morgan Depot and then steamed right by our Mountain Green firefighters at the entrance to the canyon at MM92 I-84. Big Boy premiered on the railroad in 1941, and is still the most powerful steam engine ever built. It weighs 600 TONS—about 90 elephants, and is about 3 school buses long (132 feet). It was designed specifically for the grade through Morgan County, the toughest part of the trip from Ogden to Wyoming. It can haul 60 freight cars up that grade by itself. 25 of the type were built, and they helped to defeat Hi**er and Japan by hauling load after load of war materiel. Big Boy is on display April 18&19 at Ogden Union Station, then returns eastbound through Morgan County on April 20th, on the way east for the USA’s Semiquincentennial celebration on July 4 in Philadelphia.

Day Shift Firefighters on Engine 131 along with Chief 131 and Morgan Fire Chiefs responded to a rollover on I-84 westbound prior to the westbound rest area today around 12:30. UHP reported that an SUV struck a dump truck, lost control and rolled several times, landing on its top. The SUV occupants were able to unbuckle their seatbelts and exit the vehicle. Seatbelts kept the occupants in their seats and saved their lives. Morgan Fire&EMS Ambulance121 also responded and assisted in assessing the occupants for injuries. No one was transported to the hospital. Firefighters also assisted in traffic and hazard control and scene clean up.

It was a nice night for training with a beautiful sunset. Our volunteer firefighters practiced with our Ladder truck at Canyon View Commercial, near the new Wildcat Storage and examined the office condos being constructed there. We measured for lengths of hoses needed to fight any future fires inside and pre-planned locations of utilities and hydrants. We also reviewed a recent CPR case, and the large grass fire where we assisted Morgan on Wednesday. We cover many varied topics to keep our volunteer firefighters engaged.
Won't you consider becoming a volunteer firefighter and help your community? This year may be particularly challenging with our lack of water...
