Today, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office pauses to remember the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call on September 11, 2001.
We remember the 2,977 innocent men, women, and children who never made it home. We honor the law enforcement officers, 911dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics, military members, and ordinary citizens who displayed extraordinary courage and selflessness in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice has not been forgotten.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update regarding the shooting investigation that occurred last week in the Neva community of Johnson County.

Following the investigation, 51 y/o Kevin Phillips of the Neva Community, has been charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault and Abuse of an Elderly Adult in connection with the incident.
Phillips is given a $50,000 bond. He is currently being held in the Watauga County Jail on unrelated charges following the incident. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has placed a hold on Phillips, and he will be taken into Johnson County custody following his release from Watauga County.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.

School has been back in session for over a month, but we still want to remind everyone to SLOW DOWN and stay alert!

Our school buses are on the roads early in the morning, and with foggy mornings, darkness, and reduced visibility, it can sometimes be difficult to see children and buses until they are right in front of you.

⚠️ Please remember:
• Slow down in school zones and residential areas.
• Watch carefully for school bus warning lights.
• STOP when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop sign extended.
• Be extra cautious in fog, darkness, and other low-visibility conditions.
• Watch for children who may be walking near or crossing the roadway.

A few extra seconds of caution could make all the difference.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred this evening in the Neva community.

Johnson County 911 received a call regarding the incident at approximately 7:30 p.m. One individual is currently being treated at a local hospital.

Investigators are actively working to gather all facts and information surrounding the incident. The findings of the investigation will be reviewed by the District Attorney General’s Office.

At this time, there is no threat to public safety, and all individuals involved have been identified.

We will provide additional information as it becomes available and as the investigation allows.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as our investigators continue their work.

Congratulations to Sheriff Shawn “Bit” Brown as he officially took his Oath of Office as the newly elected Sheriff of Johnson County. We are proud to celebrate this important occasion and wish Sheriff Brown the very best as he begins his service and leadership in this new role.
We also want to congratulate his selection for Chief Deputy, Cody Ingle who was also sworn in yesterday. Sheriff Brown and Chief Deputy Ingle were both joined by the family and friends for the momentous occasion.
Additionally, all School Resource Officer and Deputies were sworn in this morning, all sharing the promise to faithfully serve, uphold the law, and protect our community.

PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER: PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU SHOOT

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone to use extreme caution when handling and firing fi****ms, especially in areas where homes and other occupied structures are nearby.

Recently, deputies responded to a report of a projectile striking a residence and causing property damage. A neighboring residence also reported damage to a vehicle. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

A bullet fired into the air does not simply disappear. What goes up must come down — and you have no control over where it lands.

Before firing a fi***rm, make sure you know your target, what is beyond it, and what is around it. Never shoot toward a residence, roadway, occupied area, or into the air.

A moment of carelessness can result in serious injury, death, or significant property damage.

Please enjoy your fi****ms responsibly and always put the safety of your family, your neighbors, and your community first.

Today, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was honored to receive a visit from a representative of Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger’s office, who presented Sheriff Clifton Worley Jr. with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in acknowledgment of his outstanding dedication to public safety.

This recognition was presented as part of National Police Week, and was awarded to sheriffs across the State of Tennessee in appreciation of their service and commitment to the communities they serve.

Sheriff Worley is grateful for this recognition and extends his appreciation to the men and women of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office whose hard work, professionalism, and dedication make such achievements possible.

We thank Congresswoman Harshbarger’s office for recognizing the efforts of law enforcement officers throughout Tennessee and for their continued support of public safety.
