Chenango County Libertarian Party

Chenango County Libertarian Party A page for the libertarians of Chenango County.

As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty: a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and are not forced to sacrifice their values for the benefit of others. We believe that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that only through freedom can peace an

d prosperity be realized. Consequently, we defend each person’s right to engage in any activity that is peaceful and honest, and welcome the diversity that freedom brings. The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government or any authoritarian power

SUPPORT OUR FIGHT FOR BALLOT ACCESS

The LPNY won an important battle in Federal court Tuesday, but we still need your help.

In 2016, the LPNY and other plaintiffs filed and won a Federal lawsuit that challenged restrictions on out-of-state petitioners. After two years of litigation, we won that case, but it was subsequently mooted on appeal because Larry Sharpe had won ballot access for the LPNY in the meantime.

Fast forward to today: after the legislature changed the ballot access rules and stripped us of our recognized party status, we are once again harmed by the petitioning restrictions. We filed a new Federal case in the Eastern District of New York, along with a motion for a preliminary injunction. A hearing was held on Monday, and we were granted our injunction on Tuesday. In short: out-of-state petitioners may now circulate petitions without a notary witness.

This is a big win for voter choice and ballot access, but we still need your help. We will have significant petitioning costs over the next three weeks. Your donation to the LPNY will directly benefit our petitioning efforts. Please donate by clicking the button below. The future of the LPNY and your right to enroll as a Libertarian rests in our ability to get Larry and our other statewide candidates on the ballot.

In Liberty, and with sincerest thanks,

W. Cody Anderson
Chair, Libertarian Party of New York

Our Story

The Libertarian Party is a political party in the United States that promotes civil liberties, non-interventionism, laissez-faire economics and abolition of the welfare state. The party has generally promoted a classical liberal platform, in contrast to the modern liberal and progressive platform of the Democrats and the more conservative platform of the Republicans. Current policy positions include lowering taxes, allowing people to opt out of Social Security, ending welfare, ending the prohibition of illegal drugs, supporting same-sex marriage rights, and supporting gun ownership rights.

Gary Johnson’s run for President of the United States in 2016 and most recently Larry Sharpe’s run for Governor of NYS 2018 have drawn greater public attention to the party, and a noticeable movement is growing across the country. Whether this is the product of natural party progression since the 1970s or whether it is the growing sentiment of independents and common sense Republicans and Democrats, all of whom are increasingly aware that the two major parties do not serve the interests of the people effectively, the number of people identifying as Libertarians is steadily increasing.

An increase in registered Libertarians is a start - a very important start. However, equally important is growth in official representation. We are working to add Chenango County to the list of NYS counties with official affiliation to the Libertarian Party of NY.

As of the December 2018 State Committee meeting, Clarence LaParr has been appointed as the Tempory County Chair in Chenango County. If you are interested in working locally, contact him at [email protected]
