This week, Ms. Olson's class made predictions, measured the height and width of pumpkins, and investigated how many seeds they could find inside! Students practiced measuring, counting, estimating, and making predictions. 📏🔢🎃

Naturally, the class had to end their investigation with a PUMPKIN VOLCANO! 🌋🧪

Students in Mrs. Haynes' sixth-grade class became chemists, electrical engineers, and renewable-energy researchers as they used electrolysis to investigate what water is really made of! Using a 9-volt battery, alligator clips, sharpened pencils, and water, students built a simple electrical circuit. When electrical energy traveled through the water, they observed tiny bubbles forming around the pencil tips.

Those bubbles provided evidence that water molecules, H₂O, were being separated into hydrogen and oxygen gases. Students compared the bubbles, recorded data, looked for patterns, and used their knowledge of atoms and molecules to explain a chemical change they could not see directly.

🎤🎼 Last week's Chorus and Music Appreciation Concert included choral selections celebrating African American History and culture, as well as performances by small groups and the music appreciation bands. Students worked together to choose and learn songs on their selected instruments.

The evening's final number was a mashup of La Bamba and Twist and Shout that all three classes learned and performed together for the first time at the concert.
