Just posted the June 1, 2026 BOE meeting on Hometown News.

Now that the primary is over and done with let’s discuss our system. I’m 100% about transparency and will push for all meetings to be aired on the Lawrence County Schools page. We work for the voters, they should never have to wonder what the board is doing or what is going on!
To me that’s a simple fix that could be handled fairly quickly as long as it’s a priority!

I’ve been to several meetings over the past several months and the one thing I 100% intend to advocate for is work sessions. There is currently a lack of communication and separation between the current board and superintendent.
On Friday the agenda is emailed to the board members with the meeting being held on Monday. If a question is asked over the weekend about the agenda it’s answered on Monday. I will advocate for a minimum of 3 business days (Saturday and Sunday are not business days) for the members to have time to review, discuss with their district, and research if needed. I understand there will be some last minute adds and when that’s the case all information should be provided.
As I’ve watched how other districts are holding meetings and how there is a cohesiveness between the members and superintendent, I want to see US adopt better practices for our students, teachers, support staff, and administrators!

I will do my due diligence to help reduce the amount of students leaving our system! We have to take a hard look at US as a whole and why are students leaving?

Let’s be honest it’s not just students leaving. We have had major turnover with highly qualified and certified teachers… That’s a major red flag and speaks volumes as to how the teachers are being managed! No one should fear or be scared to speak up when they know something isn’t right.

Test scores… what’s the expectation? Let’s just be blunt….
Tests scores have went down…
Students leaving at a high rate…
Teachers leaving at an alarming rate…
Is that the goal? I don’t think so at all! Is what we are doing working? With the three things I just mentioned I say we take a deeper dive into how we plan to be better! We have to change the narrative!

I’m sharing this because it’s been brought to my attention that we have admin telling teachers not to take kids out for recess because of what it will look like to the parents. It looks like we are playing not teaching.
No child is designed to sit in a chair or a classroom for 7 hrs. Kids need that energy released!

Teachers are the key ingredient to the success of our children! We must SUPPORT them and help them be successful. Our kid’s future depends on it! I will be present at each school for each teacher. It my responsibility to make sure each teacher has what they need to be successful. I want to help create a create a working environment that keeps our teachers here at home in communities they love and grew up in! 2025-2026 school year we had fantastic tenure teachers to leave where they love. Why? Why did they leave? As a whole we don’t know because it’s not important to do exit interviews. Exit interviews should be mandatory and it should have at least one board member in that meeting. Teachers leaving… students leaving we have to get to the root cause and make adjustments fast! May 19th is your voice to vote for accountability and transparency! I will not stop until both are achieved!

How do you feel about running unopposed for the Primary?

Answer: It’s humbling to say the least! I know there were a few trying to find someone to run against me. In reality to me it says… The people believe in who I am and what I stand for. The people trust that I will do what’s right by the students, faculty, and staff!
