OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION--
The St. Mary Parish Drainage board 2A has determined it will be necessary to close the Walnut Canal floodgate. This decision is based on water levels currently upstream in the Lake Verrett watershed (Plaquemine, White Castle, Pierre Part) that will flow through Lake Palourde. The Current river level is just under 4' and predicted to drop to 3.2-3.4 over the next few days, however if this does not hold true if could cause issues with draining Lakeside. This will begin with positioning equipment to accomplish this tomorrow (friday 5-22-26) and should be complete Saturday. Residents along the canal should make plans to move boats or other floating equipment so it doesn't get blocked in by this effort.

Due to the elevated water levels in the canal and in the general area, we will closing the Walnut St. canal barge in Lakeside on Saturday 5/23 starting at 8 AM.

Citizens helping citizens... Big thanks and shout out to Lee Dragna. Letting the drainage district use the long reach to clean the grass and lilies from around station 6 and the adjacent ditches. He volunteered to also operate the machine to help dig the trash out....

ALSO... big thanks and shout out for Jeff Fontenot, after moving the machine here he also operated it to clean out the grass and lilies.

A big thank you Liberty Landscapespes and Nick Tamporello for treating and clearing vegetation in the ditches along Maple St., Franklin St., and Veterans Blvd.

As part of our ongoing maintenance plan, this work is scheduled at least twice per year to help keep overgrowth under control.
