The Cleveland County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the appointment of Sheriff to complete the unexpired term following a vacancy. This is a leadership position as the chief law enforcement officer of Cleveland County. The appointed Sheriff will serve until the next general election or as otherwise provided by law.

Position Overview:
The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of Cleveland County and an elected constitutional officer responsible for preserving the peace, enforcing state laws, and overseeing the administration and operations of the Sheriff's Office, including the county jail. The Sheriff executes all duties prescribed by the Constitution and laws of the State of Oklahoma and provides leadership, direction, and accountability for all divisions within the agency. The Sheriff will uphold the U.S. Constitution and the Oklahoma Constitution.

Under the support and direction of the Cleveland County Commissioner of District 3, this position is responsible for the successful operation of the Norman, Moore, and Noble Farm Markets. The Market Manager (MM) is responsible for the growth of the markets to include recruitment of new vendors, additional entertainment and programs during market days, and exploring additional funding from sponsors and partners. The MM completes a variety of operational and administrative tasks for the Farm Markets. The MM performs regular duties, including but not limited to management of weekly market operations, data entry, financial reconciliation, onsite labor management & consistent communication with vendors. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Jenkins family. This is a tragic loss for Cleveland County and the many people who knew and loved Bryan.

Cleveland County staff is devastated to learn of the loss of longtime county employee, Bryan Jenkins, who died while serving the community in his role as a first responder.

Bryan served Cleveland County since 1987 and managed the Cleveland County Fairgrounds since 2014. He was a public servant full of courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. He was also a dedicated first responder who served with courage and honor.

This tragic loss is deeply felt across the county and community. Our deepest condolences go out to Bryan Jenkins’ family, friends, colleagues, and fellow first responders during this incredibly difficult time. We are also thinking of and praying for the family of the other first responder who lost their life.

Out of respect for the families, Cleveland County will not be releasing additional details. We ask the community to please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers during this time as many process this heartbreaking loss.

During Women’s History Month, Cleveland County District 1 is proud to remember and honor Elna "Jan" Collins. Collins was only the second woman to serve as a Cleveland County Commissioner, representing District 1 from 1991 to 1995.

Before serving the residents of Cleveland County in that role, Collins represented House District 93 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1984 to 1986. She later continued her service to Oklahomans as a trustee for the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency from 1995 to 2002.

Throughout her life, Collins remained deeply involved in civic and community organizations, including the South Oklahoma City Frontier Country and Liberty Republican Women’s Clubs. Her leadership included 13 terms as President, five terms as Vice-President, two terms as Secretary, and two terms as Treasurer, reflecting a lifelong commitment to service and leadership.

District 1 crews have been busy replacing a cross drain that was rotted out on S. Luther Road between SE 149th Street and SE 134th Street. and culverts play a vital role in maintaining rural roads, especially in areas prone to rainfall, runoff from fields, or small streams. Rural roads often lack extensive storm sewer systems, making these structures essential for handling water effectively and preventing flooding. They also help extend the lifespan of the road by keeping water away from the road base and protect against erosion and washouts. Cross drains and culverts are low-cost but high-impact features that protect rural roads from water damage — a leading cause of deterioration.
