The 2026 legislative session has ended and we want to extend our sincere gratitude to the Vermont legislators who supported children, families, and prevention efforts this year... 💫

🌟Thank you to all the members of the House Committee on Human Services, House Committee on Appropriations, and Senate Committee on Appropriations for your thoughtful leadership and commitment to Vermont communities.
🌟We are especially grateful to Chair Theresa Wood, Rep. Anne Donahue, Rep. Brenda Steady, Chair Robin Scheu, Rep. Tiffany Bluemle, Rep. David Yacovone, Senator Andrew Perchlik, Senator Anne Watson, and Senator Richard Westman for their support and partnership.

☀️ 10 things EVERY caregiver should know before summer is in full swing…

1️⃣ Kids don’t need a packed schedule to have a great summer! Some of the best childhood memories come from simple, unstructured play.

2️⃣ Routines still matter: Even during summer break, predictable meals, bedtimes, and expectations help children feel safe and secure.

3️⃣ You don’t have to entertain your child every minute. Boredom can spark creativity, imagination, and independence.

4️⃣ Water safety deserves your full attention. Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, even in shallow water.

5️⃣ Summer can be hard on some children. Changes in schedules and childcare can create added stress.

6️⃣ Children thrive when they have trusted adults in their lives. A caring neighbor, coach, grandparent, teacher, or family friend can make a lasting difference!

7️⃣ Time outside is good for all of us. Fresh air, movement, and exploring nature support healthy development and well-being.

8️⃣ Sometimes behavior is communication. A child who’s acting out may be telling us they’re tired, overwhelmed, worried, or in need of connection.

9️⃣ Parenting was never meant to be done alone. Checking in on a friend, offering help, or building community can make a bigger impact than you realize. Visit PCAVT.org for support!

🔟 The little moments matter most. Reading together, sharing a meal, listening to a story, or laughing over a sprinkler can help children feel loved and connected.

Here’s to a summer filled with safety, connection, and plenty of joyful memories💙
